Preferred Work Term Length: 12 months

Preferred Education: 2nd, 3rd, or 4****th year Bachelor’s Degree in Environment Science, Health & Safety, Engineering, Business Administration, Accounting, or Business Analysis.

Eligibility: Students must be enrolled in a formal co-op/internship program with their post-secondary institution OR Students must be returning to their post-secondary institution after this work term

The Role

We’re seeking a Health, Safety & Environment Co-op Student to join our Health, Safety & Environment, North America team. Reporting to the Manager – Regulatory and Environment QHSE, North America, you´ll be working with a team of dedicated employees across North America.

During your work term, you will be challenged with meaningful projects that allow you to take ownership of your work and contribute directly to organizational success. You’ll gain hands-on experience, build technical skills that complement your academic background, and explore potential future opportunities within our company. To thrive in this role, you'll be expected to set clear goals, communicate your vision, and manage both individual and region-specific targets.

This position supports the North American division and fosters cross-functional collaboration by standardizing reporting practices and improving processes that drive continuous QHSE performance. Key responsibilities include stewardship reporting, IT system maintenance, support for event reporting procedures, benchmarking, and ensuring the integrity of QHSE Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data and processes.

Some of the key responsibilities of the Health, Safety & Environment Co-op Student will be:

  • Assist in compiling corporate consolidated QHSE reports, including requesting data from stakeholders and designing graphical representations to effectively communicate findings.
  • Maintain QHSE databases and spreadsheets with health, safety, and environmental data.
  • Support the development and review of QHSE policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Advocate for the QHSE team's role in ensuring regulatory adherence.
  • Plan biannual safety meetings, coordinate stakeholder follow-ups, and communicate QHSE data and action items to senior leadership.
  • Calculate and report workforce exposure hours, along with Lost Time Incident (LTI) and Total Recordable Injury Frequency (TRIF) values for inclusion in corporate QHSE metrics and reports.
  • Contribute data analysis and written summaries to the annual consolidated QHSE Performance Report to support comprehensive evaluation.
  • Report event details and QHSE metrics to support the Communications Department in developing internal news stories and publishing stewardship reports.
  • Compile and validate Process Safety Management (PSM) KPI data from various sources and design presentations with graphical representations to effectively communicate results.
  • Provide general administrative support to the QHSE team, including scheduling meetings, taking minutes, and organizing files.
  • Conduct QA/QC on environmental and regulatory events and leading and lagging data for reports
  • Support revisions to QHSE IT system training materials as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

To be eligible for our co-op student program, you must be enrolled in a co-op/internship program sponsored by an accredited post-secondary institution.

  • Eligible to work in Canada.
  • Work permit must be in place at time of application (if applicable)
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and have strong fluency in English.
  • Excellent computer application knowledge, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI and workplace databases.
  • Previous oil and gas experience would be considered an asset.
  • Previous health, safety, and environment experience would be considered an asset.
  • Motivation to achieve and exceed superior results.
  • Self-motivated and innovative with “can do” attitude.
  • Strong obligation to accountability and safety mindset.
  • Demonstrate effective decision-making skills.
