About the role

Employees in this class perform maintenance and renovations on all University-owned buildings, equipment, and grounds. This position involves maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting equipment, as well as building structures and systems. It ensures that all hot, chilled, domestic, and storm water systems, along with steam and sewage systems, are in good repair through regular maintenance and/or new installations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carries out plumbing related projects such as installing new plumbing systems, prepares material lists for such projects, and carries out installation in accordance with local, provincial, and Federal codes and regulations
  • Trouble shoots, maintains and repairs all plumbing related systems and equipment such as domestic water systems, heating systems, cooling systems, drainage systems, humidification systems, sprinkler systems, compressed air systems, steam systems, medical gas systems, and compressed air systems
  • Trouble shoots, maintains and repairs equipment such as pressure reducing stations, pumps, compressors, boilers, burner systems, garburators, commercial kitchen equipment, refrigeration equipment, etc.
  • Trouble shoots, maintains and repairs all instrumentation on the equipment and systems within campus
  • Carries out non-plumbing minor repairs or initial investigation work such as carpentry, ventilation, millwright, welding, groundwork, etc.
  • Repair, reset and reprogram fire alarm and security systems
  • Requisitions for material, supplies and tools relating to proposed or actual work being performed and inventory purposes
  • Such other duties as may be assigned by supervisor
  • Directly responsible to the Maintenance Foreman

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 education with five (5) years’ experience in the plumbing field, including but not limited to: installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of building systems and equipment, with preference in an education/health care setting
  • Preference will be given to individuals with a Red Seal certification as a plumber, and/or in progress to complete the block release plumbing program requirements will also be considered
  • Computer software experience
  • Valid driver’s license and a Criminal Record Check will be required
