Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services is seeking a skilled, motivated and dedicated Pharmacist to join our committed team at the University of Alberta Hospital/Stollery Children’s Hospital. In this role, you will collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote the safe, effective, and appropriate use of medications. You will assess patients for medication related issues, contribute to comprehensive medication management plans, and help optimize therapeutic outcomes. This hospital based position includes participation in patient care rounds, close collaboration with clinical teams, and engagement with patients and families to individualize therapy. Responsibilities include reviewing and verifying medication orders and may also involve checking prepared products such as oral, parenteral, chemotherapeutic, and topical medications. You may assist with special access or investigational drug therapies and support pharmacy operations through mentorship of new staff, precepting students, and providing guidance to Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians. This site operates 24/7 and requires day, evening, night, and/or weekend shifts. The successful candidate is experienced with computerized medication order entry and drug information systems, works well within diverse teams, and maintains patient confidentiality. Strong critical thinking, time management, and problem solving skills are essential, along with a compassionate, patient focused approach. Effective English communication and professional accountability are required. The role includes visual and computer work, with occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Current, provisional or transferable registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacist.
Additional Required Qualifications:
As required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited hospital residency and/or post-baccalaureate Pharm D program. Additional Prescribing Authorization at time of hire or within the 1st year of employment. Experience precepting students, membership in a professional hospital pharmacy organization, and participation in projects, research or committee work is an asset. At least 1 year of recent experience in large tertiary hospital pharmacy setting within the last 2 years.
