Job Description Position Purpose summary: The Food Bank Worker - Driver provides support to The Salvation Army Simcoe’s community food bank program. Key areas of assistance include driving to pick up donations from community partners, sorting and organizing donations and representing The Salvation Army within the Norfolk County community while picking up donations. All staff of The Salvation Army are expected to embody the mission and values of The Salvation Army as they carry out their duties.

Accountabilities

  • Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations for Community Services programs and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
  • Pick-up/Delivery for donation of goods from community donors using program vehicle.
  • Pick up and unload food donations and orders.
  • Provide all donors with professional and courteous service
  • Ensure all donations (food) are handled and stored in compliance with Safe Food Handling standards
  • Operate, inspect, and maintain vehicle and related documentation.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the program vehicle, and report maintenance issues to the Corps Officer; maintain a mileage log for the program vehicle.
  • Ensure that any spillage is cleaned up and maintain the required level of cleanliness within the site.
  • Document/report any vehicle incident or damage in a timely manner
  • Fuel the vehicle as necessary, as per policy
  • Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
  • Ensure that the food bank areas are maintained regarding appearance, condition and safety as recommended by Public Health.
  • Work with other CS staff to maintain, promote and improve the profile of TSA Simcoe Community Church and CS programs within the community
  • Work with the Corps Officer and other CS employees to strengthen existing donor relationships and develop new donor relationships
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained in accordance with Operating Policy and applicable legislation.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform Other Related Duties As Required. FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Assist with food bank materials management such as donations/product flow and distribution of same.

Working Conditions

  • This is a temporary part-time position based on 18 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Ability to lift/move more than 30 lbs. and this job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently; working in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • Working environment is typically in the office/van in generally agreeable conditions.
  • Your supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification when dealing with clients.

Normal hours of work: 18 Hours per week. This position requires availability Monday to Friday. Shifts will be mostly in the morning (9:00am-1:00pm) but scheduling flexibility may be needed based on donor/community partner needs. Additional hours and modification to the working schedule may be needed during peak seasons (ie. Christmas).

  • Completion of Secondary School.
  • Ability and/or willingness to obtain and maintain in good standing a Safe Food Handling certification that is recognized by Public Health.
  • First Aid & CPR Certification would be an asset.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • A minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience is an asset
  • Strong skills in all Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge and experience with email and internet-based programs

  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
