DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Safehaven is a not-for-profit organization that has provided residential and respite care to individuals with medical complexities and developmental disabilities for over 30 years. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for our clients, where they can live with dignity and respect because we all belong. With six locations across the GTA, Safehaven has served thousands of individuals diagnosed with cerebral palsy, down syndrome, muscular dystrophy, genetic disorders, and other complex care needs. Partnering with clients, families, agencies, and other organizations, Safehaven provides exceptional care to meet the unique needs of our clients.

ROLE SUMMARY:
The Director of Finance serves as a key member of the leadership team and provides support for all accounting and finance matters of the organization. This role is very hands-on with a wide range of responsibilities, including oversight of the daily accounting operations that includes forecasting, financial reporting, budgeting, year-end close, and the financial audit. The Director of Finance will also participate in the organization’s strategic planning and operational execution as it relates to the finance function.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will be responsible for creating and overseeing the organization's financial plans and budgets. This involves analyzing financial data, identifying trends, forecasting future performance, and making strategic recommendations to ensure the company's financial objectives are met. You will lead the budgeting process, working closely with department leaders and executives to set financial targets and allocate resources appropriately. Regularly monitor and report on budget performance, identifying any deviations and proposing corrective actions. Provide accurate and timely financial reports to the executive team and CEO. These reports should include key financial metrics, insights into financial performance, and forecasts for the future. Assess financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them. This includes evaluating potential investments, analyzing credit risk, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and reporting standards. Monitor and manage the organization's cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity for day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives. Develop cash flow forecasts to predict cash needs and optimize cash utilization. Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting principles, and tax laws. Work with auditors and accountants to prepare and review financial statements and support the audit process. Provide financial insights and guidance to the executive team and other stakeholders. Collaborate on strategic decisions, mergers, acquisitions, and other financial initiatives that align with the company's long-term goals. Oversee the finance department, providing leadership, guidance, and mentorship to your team members. Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the department.
QUALFICATIONS: University Degree in Finance, Business, Economics etc. CPA Designation. 10+ years in a senior finance and leadership capacity. Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations. Experience working within the not-for-profit sector preferred. Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, conditional statements, etc.). QuickBooks experience required. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
