Community Nurse Educator - Temporary Full Time (12-18 months Contract)
The Regional Learning Centre (RLC) is seeking a community nurse educator. This is a full-time contract position which will be based at the Regional Learning Centre location, 2030 Bristol Circle in Oakville, with some work conducted remotely. Reporting to the Regional Manager, Regional Learning Centre, the Nurse Educator will play a key role on the education team.
POSITION SUMMARY
What could a day in the life look like?
- Researching evidenced based best practices for a new education module
- Designing and developing new modules in collaboration with the team
- Driving to a variety of locations to provide onsite education
- Facilitating online sessions via Teams or Zoom for staff from a variety of organizations
- Evaluating current learning opportunities and exploring areas for improvement
- Identification of learning needs and new areas for education development
- Identification and marketing of potential revenue generation opportunities
Duties and Responsibilities:
Communications and Outreach
- Engaging with essential stakeholders and community organizations
- Participation in marketing and outreach to potential customers
- Identification of grant opportunities and creation of applications
Education
- Design and develop interactive training sessions that meet the needs and learning styles of a variety of learners
- Facilitate virtual and in-person training sessions for family caregivers, staff and supervisors/leaders
- Proactively investigate trends and new resources in adult education
- Ongoing professional development and upskilling related to the role
- Participation in communities of practice and knowledge sharing groups
- Involvement in creating e-learning and evaluating education outcomes
Is this the right role for you?
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (required); Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field is an asset
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Recent relevant experience working in the community sector with unregulated healthcare providers, clients and family caregivers. Solid understanding of delegated acts that occur in the community setting
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate cross-functionally
- A strong critical thinker who takes a proactive approach with a high degree of initiative.

- Proactive problem solver who identifies potential issues before they occur
- Out of the box thinker who is willing to learn and try new things
- Effective presentation and facilitation skills in the classroom and in an online learning environment

- Proven leadership abilities, organizational and time management skills
- Experience in coaching, mentoring and motivating staff
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and with a variety of partners and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes
- Excellent customer service skills and a passion for delivering exceptional service.
- Ability to work independently and successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines
- Experience with marketing and outreach to potential clients
- Written and verbal fluency in English is required; fluency in a second language is an asset
- Proficiency working with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), virtual presentation platforms (Zoom, Teams)
Desirable Assets
- Certification as a coach/ facilitator in one or more of the following is helpful: GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approaches) Mental Health First Aid Basic or Seniors, Compassion Fatigue, The Working Mind, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
- Knowledge of safe patient handling best practices / back care
- Familiarity with the interRAI CHA assessment & interest in becoming a CHA trainer
- Recent experience delegating to unregulated staff
- Working knowledge of PSW scope of practice in a community setting
- Working knowledge of e-learning creation software – familiarity with Articulate RISE and 360.
SPECIAL****CONDITIONS
- A Criminal Record Check and credential verification, as applicable, will be conducted
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Mixture of remote and in-person work. Special Equipment – office phones, computers, laptops, printers, photocopier, cellphone and other office equipment, mechanical lifts and patient handling equipment.
- Possible travel across various regions within Greater Toronto and surrounding areas.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
- Sitting, standing, walking, moderate lifting
- Smoking is not permitted in the office areas. Smoking areas are designated according to the policy of the building
- Nucleus Independent Living has a scent-free environment policy
- No hazardous materials other than normal/usual household cleaning supplies are used
