Our team embraces a flexible hybrid work model: 3 days per week in office, and up to 2 days per week from home.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Senior Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting and financial reporting at Toronto Global, including cash management, payroll, funding claims, OMERS, reconciliations, and maintaining the general ledger. The ideal candidate is an energetic and enthusiastic collaborator with dynamic experience in both the private and non-profit or public sector.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting & Analysis Liaise with external accountants to prepare audit working papers and ensure completion of audits Prepare projected cash flow analysis and assist Director, Finance in the planning and preparation of annual budgets and reforecasts. Prepare quarterly and yearend financial statements and monthly, quarterly, and yearly variance reports. Assist Director, Finance in the preparation of ad-hoc reports, analysis, presentation decks, and materials for Finance & Audit Committee and Toronto Global Board of Directors, as directed. Prepare and enter monthly recurring journal entries for month-end and year-end closing and approve and post coding for payable invoices. Reconcile, analyze, and understand all General Ledger accounts. Prepare bank deposits and reconciliations. Setup payments and new vendor templates in CIBC CMO for management approval. Create purchase orders, and new accounts in the Chart of Accounts and update relevant information in MRI in accordance with procurement policies.

Accounting Operations, Administration & Payroll

Process bi-weekly payroll and year-end reports, including T4s; update and maintain employee information in payroll system (ADP). Remit monthly contributions to OMERS; prepare, reconcile and file annual OMERS return Reconcile and file annual EHT return. Reconcile travel advances and employee expense reports. Provide support to Director, Finance in operational accounting initiatives and projects, including but not limited to financial policy drafting, conversion to new expense management, payroll, and/or accounting systems, developing department procedures, etc.

Funding & Compliance

Reconcile government transfers, prepare HST reconciliations and corporate income tax Assist in the tracking, analyzing, and preparation of funding claims (CECI, Program funding, etc) and funding partner invoices, in accordance with funding agreements. Analyze and reconcile deferred contributions on a monthly and/or quarterly basis.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a not-for-profit organization. Prior experience in public accounting would be considered an asset. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or equivalent accounting designation. A strong knowledge of accounting principles and ethical business practices. Strong attention to detail, exhibiting a high degree of accuracy in all work. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Proactive, resourceful, with an ability to solve problems creatively.

Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage or related required

Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with MS 365 suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams, etc. Experience with automated expense software such as Concur or Expensify is considered an asset Strong verbal and written communication skills Capable of working independently and with minimal supervision. Efficiently establish and maintain positive working relationships. Eagerness to adapt, modernize and change policies and systems in place as the need arises. Demonstrate a high degree of initiative, accuracy, and confidentiality.
