THE OPPORTUNITY
The Upper Grand District School Board is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team for a permanent full-time opportunity in the ICT Infrastructure & Data Protection Specialist role. This is a 12-month position to commence as soon as possible.
Reporting to the Manager of ICT Infrastructure, the ICT Infrastructure & Data Protection Specialist administers and optimizes the organization's IT data protection infrastructure, ensuring compliance with security standards and alignment with organizational goals. Responsibilities include maintaining on-premises and cloud data centers, developing PowerShell scripts, and providing Tier-2 technical support.
The role also involves managing data protection strategies, monitoring backup processes, enforcing policies, supporting disaster recovery plans, and conducting training programs. Additionally, the specialist supports risk assessments, audits, and incident response efforts, while mentoring team members and staff to enhance data protection capabilities.
**LOCATION:**Guelph Board Office (500 Victoria Road N, Guelph, ON)
HOURLY RATE**:Base Hourly rate:** $30.93 to $37.66 per hour; wage rate effective September 1, 2025
- Labour market adjustment of 24% to be applied to base hourly rate; hourly rate
inclusive of market adjustment is $38.35 to $46.70 per hour
- labour market adjustment may fluctuate based on local market.
**FTE/HOURS:**1.0 FTE (35 hours per week)

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to tasks and duties in the following areas:
- ICT Infrastructure and Data Centre Management
- Data Protection
- IT Service Management
- Tier 1 and Tier 2 ICT Support
- Compliance
- Technical Documentation and Training
- Perform other duties as assigned to grow and develop as an IT professional
Experience and Qualifications:
- Post-Secondary Degree / Diploma in Computer Engineering, Electric Engineering, or another related technical field with 3 years of appropriate experience; or 5 years combined education and/or experience deemed equivalent by the board. Post Secondary Degree in a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in IT support, including field and desk-side support.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues.
- 3+ years of experience in administering and managing, identity and access management (IAM), systems management, IT service management (ITSM), virtual environment, Disaster Recovery, and Tier-2 ICT support.
- 3+ years of experience in administering and managing Azure Entra ID and Microsoft 365 administration, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive.
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Power Platform & Proficient in Windows server, Windows desktop, macOS and ChromeOS operating systems.
- Experience with network administration and support, monitoring cloud platforms for security threats and vulnerabilities using security tools and services.
- Proven ability to provide technical support and guidance to end-users and IT staff, troubleshooting advanced technical issues.
- Hands-on experience with power protection solutions (generator, UPS and PDU) to ensure continuous operation during power outages.
- Experience utilizing out-of-band management tools to monitor and manage server hardware remotely.
- Experience supporting incident response efforts, conducting root cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions.
- Skilled in data backup, disaster recovery, and incident response & experienced in data protection, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of ITIL and CIS Controls and experience with IT & infrastructure project support and vendor coordination.
- Experienced in system integration, bug resolution , audit support, and proactive system optimization.
- Proficient in creating technical documentation and delivering training programs.
- Experienced in mentoring junior staff and guiding support teams.
- Certificates such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, CompTIA A+ , CompTIA Network, ITIL Foundation Certification, Google Cloud Certified – Professional Cloud Architect, Veeam Certified Architect (VMCA) preferred.
- Proficient in TOPdesk ITSM, Microsoft Intune MDM, PowerShell automation, Azure Site Recovery, and Veeam backup systems. Experienced with Hyper-V, Azure Arc, Microsoft Power Platform, and Microsoft Defender suite.
