The City of Abbotsford is looking for Auxiliary Recreation Workers – Drop-in Programs to join our Parks, Recreation & Culture team. Under the supervision of the Community Recreation Programmers, Recreation Worker 1’s will ensure a high level of customer service is maintained and that work is carried out in accordance with safety standards and best practices.
Core Characteristics:
- Outstanding leadership and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a culturally diverse community setting
- Excellent customer service, communication skills & positive attitude
Duties:
- Provide high quality customer service.
- Enforce general facility and program code of conduct rules and guidelines.
- Supervise, facilitate and lead drop-in sessions and assist with supervision of birthday parties.
- Support games, sports, and craft making activities with children.
- Set-up, take-down, and organize equipment and programs.
- Provides minor first aid to patrons as needed.
- Facilitate and supervise various drop-in programs.
- Assist with special events at civic facilities, parks and satellite locations as needed.
- Clean and organize gym space, program space, storage rooms, work area, and facility.
- Keep Supervisors informed of day-to-day activities and operational needs.
- Inspect the physical space and equipment for hazards, correct the hazards where possible and report the hazards.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR ‘C’ & AED certification
- Completion of grade 10.
- High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development Certificate
- Leadership skills including ability to model appropriate behaviors and demonstrate sound judgment while creating a positive, enthusiastic & fun environment.
- Six months experience working with the public preferably in a recreational environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Candidates are required to provide a satisfactory Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check in order to work in this position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position. It is the responsibility of the candidate to report to their manager any criminal charges laid against them during their term in this position.
