Cermaq Seafood BC is seeking a dedicated Saltwater Aquaculture Technician to join and support our Saltwater Teams on a permanent, full-time basis, on the coast of North Vancouver Island, BC. The Aquaculture Technician role consists of shift work, 8 days on and 6 days off. You will be reporting directly to the Site Manager and will be primarily responsible for working as part of a team to conduct the day-to-day farm operations, including feeding, animal husbandry and security of fish stocks. We provide company paid bus and boat transportation from the Campbell River community to our farms in the North Island.

Key Accountabilities:
- Carrying out daily tasks, including monitoring, feeding, and caring for fish and equipment
- A keen understanding of all fish handling procedures (i.e. grading and splits)
- Understand, enforce, and adhere to all government regulations, farm practices and standard of practices
- Conducting water chemistry tests and habitat assessments, and sampling fish health
- A good understanding of feed regimes, feed rates and feed monitoring
- Familiarity with cage and anchoring knowledge and related maintenance
- Environmental and plankton monitoring
- Managing site inventory and performing general errands
- Basic equipment maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting and general site upkeep
- Collecting and entering production data
- Supporting the training and development of new technicians
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience in Aquaculture preferred, but not required
- Aquaculture Certificate/Diploma, or a science-based degree in Aquaculture, Biology, Marine Biology, Fisheries Resource Management preferred but not required
- Valid certificates for First Aid 1, WHMIS, Forklift, SVOP and Med A3 are an asset
- Must be physically fit and able to lift or move heavy items up to 40 lbs. (20 kg)
- Well-developed communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills
- Strong teamwork and conflict resolution skills
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Enthusiastic mindset with a strong desire to grow and develop new skills
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
