What’s the job:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for full cycle operational accounting, financial reporting and analysis as well as preparing accurate and timely monthly financial statement packages for TFG. The role also prepares and processes payroll for related entities and assist in related schedules required by management and other stakeholders.
Activities include but are not limited to accounting, payroll, government filings, bank reconciliations, prepaids, accruals, amortization and audit preparation. This is a senior level role focused on managing the input, verification and validation of information and data in a timely and consistent manner based corporate policy, procedure guidelines and GAAP. This role works closely with other members of the department and provides regular, contact with members of other departments.
What you’ll be doing:

Monthly financial statement production:

Prepare monthly financial statements

Responsible for the general ledger and month end close work

Research and reconcile all discrepancies

Prepare variance analysis of the financial statements
2. Perform journal entries, reconciliations and trial balances:
- Calculate and record fixed asset & depreciation calculations into the accounting system
- Update and maintain prepaid and accrual schedules
- Prepare and maintain monthly working papers and reconciliations for other general ledger accounts
- Complete or review month end trial balances for accuracy prior to the final statement run each month
- Perform or assists with journal entries, reconciliations and trial balances on accounts as requested or directed
3. Payroll
- Review semi-monthly payroll and commission calculations to ensure they are accurate and processed on time
- Process timesheets and semi-monthly payroll
- Collaborate with HR to maintain employee attendance records
4. Banking and cash activity:
- Responsible for all bank reconciliations on all bank accounts
- Review reconciliations prepared by subordinates as required
- Monitor daily, weekly and monthly cash flow, line usage and line availability as required
- Review all AR & AP invoices and payments for all companies
5. Government remittances:
- Prepare and/or oversee the calculation, preparation and payment government remittances including but not limited to GST/HST, QST and other commodity tax returns
- Prepare and/or oversees the preparation and payment of other government remittances including but not limited to business licenses
6. Supervisory:
- Plan, assign and direct subordinates’ work
- Coach and appraise subordinate’s performance
- Ensures cross training is completed on activities within the department
- Mentor and train less experienced team members
7. Other activities:
- Respond to daily accounting and finance enquiries in the normal course
- Lead the annual audit information preparation, ensure procedure adherence and manage its general administration and assist on the audit as requested or directed
- Assist in the annual budget preparation for entities
- Assist with policy and procedures updates
What you bring:
- A strong sense of integrity, professionalism and a results-oriented attitude to continually improve processes and systems, enhance efficiency, and contribute to overall organizational success
- Works well under pressure to meet ongoing and overlapping deadlines within short time constraints
- Detail oriented and able to identify errors with a continuous improvement mindset
- Advanced ability to manage and prioritize a complex workload while adhering to performance goals
- Effective communication, organization and interpersonal skills
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office products
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting or Finance and working towards a designation
- 3+ years of previous accounting experience in medium or large size companies
- Experience with financial reporting and generally accepted accounting principles including ASPE; knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP would be an asset
- Experience with payroll and provincial employment standards and regulations and knowledge of ADP Workforce Now is an asset
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central an asset
