VCA Canada Animal Care Centre of Strathmoreis accepting applications for a 2026 Summer DVM Student position. This is a great opportunity to apply your classroom studies within a hospital environment and acquire first-hand experience in working closely with veterinary professionals.
Our Veterinary Summer Student position will provide you with invaluable insights into your career path post graduation. As a valued member of our team, you will develop practical and professional skills by working under a licensed veterinarian and/or registered technicians/technologists.
You will be introduced to the inner workings of our hospitals while also gaining exposure and education in the following areas:
- Patient intake and triage
- Patient handling and restraint
- Client care and relationship management
- Treatment and hands on compassionate care
- Observe or assist in surgical, non-surgical procedures, and anesthesia
- Assist with laboratory and imaging diagnostics
- Train in use of in-house practice management software
- General hospital maintenance
Note: The amount of responsibility, duties, supervision, and delegation will depend on your veterinary school year and provincial veterinary legislation guidelines.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited DVM program
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Must be able to repeatedly lift at least 40 lbs
- Exceptional client service skills that build trust and loyalty
- Calm, compassionate, and nurturing attitude
