Job Description Grand Lake Timber Sawmill in Chipman, NB is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Yard Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our sawmill yard. This role is responsible for coordinating yard activities, managing inventory flow, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and leading a team of yard workers to maintain efficient and organized operations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the movement of lumber and other materials in the yard.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting.
- Lead and motivate yard staff, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Handle disciplinary issues when required
- Input payroll for hourly yard staff
- Ensure all yard operations comply with safety regulations and company policies.
- Operate and oversee the use of heavy equipment such as forklifts, loaders, and trucks.
- Collaborate with production and logistics teams to ensure timely shipments and deliveries.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment and yard areas to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard to support efficient workflow.
- Assist in scheduling and coordinating inbound and outbound shipments.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in forestry, operations, or logistics is an asset.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a sawmill, lumber yard, or similar industrial setting.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Strong understanding of safety practices and regulations in an industrial environment.
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment and understanding of maintenance procedures.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and perform physical tasks.
- Be able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
