Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Director Strategic Communications & Public Affairs is seeking a Communications & Digital Media Specialist. This role helps shape and deliver digital and social communications that build Waypoint’s brand, tell meaningful stories, and protect its reputation across care, research, and organizational priorities. We’re a small, collaborative team of communicators - curious, creative, strategic, and brand-focused.

Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church Street, Penetanguishene.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Serve as an integral member of the Strategic Communications and Public Affairs team, contributing ideas and expertise to shape strategies and tactics across a range of priorities, including care, research, and organizational initiatives.
  • Help develop and deliver digital and social media content strategies that support and advance the organization’s overall communications and engagement goals.
  • Create compelling social content using video, imagery, and concise, high-impact copy that resonates with diverse audiences across platforms
  • Maintain and continuously improve the corporate WordPress website, ensuring content is current, engaging, accessible, and aligned with brand standards, while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to source and develop content.
  • Protect and enhance the organization’s reputation through proactive community management, consistent brand discipline, and thoughtful engagement across digital channels in a highly hybrid work environment.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in website general design concepts, content management/maintenance and video/photography production (filming, audio, editing using video editing software)
  • Experience in communications, social media, marketing/advertising, public/media relations
  • Compelling storyteller using images, video, and clear, engaging copy
  • Proven success in digital communications and social media strategy
  • Skilled at creating thumb-stopping content and adapting to trends and algorithms
  • Broad expertise across content strategy, writing, design, video, UX, web, analytics, and accessibility
  • Strong experience in website management, branding, and corporate identity
  • Solid background in generalist communications, marketing, advertising, and media relations
  • Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills; able to engage diverse audiences
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and results-oriented in fast-paced environments
  • Experience in healthcare, hospitals, or social services considered an asset
