About the Role
The Therapeutic Recreation Assistant Program is seeking a Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) Certified Coach to facilitate a two-day (4 hours each day), interactive online workshop for students. This workshop introduces learners to the core principles of Gentle Persuasive Approaches, emphasizing practical, person-centered strategies for supporting individuals with dementia and other cognitive challenges.
The facilitator will deliver their own GPA curriculum as a certified coach and create an engaging, inclusive, and supportive virtual classroom environment that aligns with adult learning principles and the goals of the Therapeutic Recreation Assistant Program.
- Location: Online (via Moodle and Collaborate)
- Workshop dates: December 11 & 12 2025
- Status: Contract/Part-Time
- Compensation: $50/hr
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a two-day (4 hours per day) online Gentle Persuasive Approaches workshop using approved GPA materials.
- Introduce students to GPA principles with a focus on practical therapeutic skills relevant to Therapeutic Recreation Assistants.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages participation and reflection.
- Adapt instruction to meet learner needs and promote active engagement.
- Attend a 1-hour paid preparation session with the Curriculum, Learning & Teaching Specialist to review curriculum.
- Attend a 1-hour paid orientation session to learn about Moodle and Collaborate platforms.
- Take attendance and submit an attendance report to the Student Logistics Coordinator immediately following the workshop.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must be a GPA-Certified Coach in good standing.
- Experience in dementia care, geriatric care, or a related healthcare field.
- Demonstrated experience teaching, facilitating, or training adults, ideally in an online environment.
- Proficiency in Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) and its application in therapeutic and care settings.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable delivering interactive educational experiences using online learning platforms (Moodle, Collaborate, or similar).
- Passion for adult education and commitment to student success.
- Ability to create interactive, learner-centered sessions.
Workshop Schedule
- Duration: 2 days
- Hours: 4 hours per day (8 hours total instruction)
- Additional Time: 2 paid hours for orientation and preparation sessions (1 hour each)
- Delivery Mode: Online via Moodle and Collaborate
