About the role

Job Summary

This role is the focal point of contact between airports, customers, and stakeholders for commercial opportunities. This role serves as the liaison between stakeholders and various departments on matters related to proponents’ plans and NAV CANADA business plan. The role also participates in the evaluation of complex solutions and makes recommendations to Senior Management based on potential mitigation and work practices. This includes working closely with the Operations, Technology, Supply Chain, Finance, Real Estate, and Legal teams at NAV CANADA. The externally driven projects managed by the team involve decisions regarding the generation of miscellaneous revenue and taking actions that ensure the maintenance of positive relationships between NAV CANADA and the various industry stakeholders.

The incumbent also contributes to the planning of the business unit activities and ensures these are aligned with regulatory, safety, and corporate requirements.

The job engages, influences, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to educate, inform, identify conflicts, follow-up and make recommendations for continuous improvement of the business unit’s performance. Beyond immediate projects and the related cost recovery, the role contributes to cost avoidance and preservation of company reputation through the maintenance of positive relationships.

In this role you will:

Planning and Delivery of the Commercial Relations Program

  • Oversees the efficient processing of unsolicited cost-recovery projects initiated by airports (ex.: asset relocation or installation) and other revenue generating opportunities (ex. data sales). These include the multi-year complex projects at the 4 Majors and other large Canadian airports.
  • Leads the analysis of information and data, such as value, costs, risks, benefits, requirements, architecture, and alignment of client requests to business and strategic objectives.
  • Influences changes in other internal groups’ own plans in consideration of stakeholder constraints and priorities.
  • Participates in the development of the commercial relations business plan.
  • Contributes to process improvements for the business unit.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Develops and maintains positive relationships between NAV CANADA and airports, regulators, associations, support agencies and other service providers as well as with our collective customers (air operators) and ensures all stakeholder interests are consistently considered.
  • Collaborates with internal partners to perform impact analysis and risk assessments, identifies, and prioritizes operational risks and recommends mitigation, recovery and prevention strategies.
  • Represents NAVCANADA at industry and association events as well as stakeholder working groups. This may include sharing company information, gathering relevant insights on industry trends and aligning with internal plans.

Other Duties

  • Determines the applicable cost recovery mechanism (total, cost-share, absorbed) in consultation with internal stakeholders and as appropriate for the business.
  • Participates in feasibility studies, explorations, resource and capacity planning including costs estimation, time, personnel requirements and conducting business value analyses (i.e. other than just financial).
  • Represents Stakeholder and Commercial Relations at inter-departmental working groups on pertinent issues (ex.: AIM Modernization Program, AWG – ANSCSC, Agreements Working Group – Air Navigation Services Cooperation Steering Committee, etc.)
  • Acts as the stakeholder relations liaison with FIR representatives at the L1 and L2 levels, providing insights and leading interactions to address contentious issues and identifying mutually acceptable solutions supporting the aviation ecosystem.

What you bring:

  • Post-secondary education in Aviation, Business Administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of Education, Training and Experience in the aviation industry.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience gained through working in an aviation environment including developing and managing relationships with diverse customers and stakeholders.
  • Experienced with problem diagnosis, solution development, client communications, documentation, and managing client expectations.
  • Experience in Project Management and Change Management practices.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the Air Navigation System, including airport operations and NAV CANADA’s provision of services.
  • Knowledge of AIM products and industry requirements.
  • Understanding of NAV CANADA’s various operational systems and equipment.
  • Clear understanding of product costing, pricing, and profitability mechanisms.
  • Understanding of the aviation industry in Canada and abroad and how situations might impact NAV CANADA and stakeholders on a financial level.
  • Strong knowledge of contracting policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of operational policies, standards, procedures and techniques related to the aviation industry.
  • Knowledge of NAV CANADA’s corporate objectives and policies.
  • Knowledge of report writing techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of airport construct, configurations, and related rules (ex. TP308) [airport operations].
  • Strong knowledge of O365 suite, SharePoint Online, Adobe.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is based at the Ottawa Head Office, and is a hybrid position with a minimum 3 days per week on site.
  • Occasional travel required.
