Overview

The Summer Intern, Payments will support the Payments team in the commercial, operational, and strategic execution of Element’s payments business, including fuel, mobility, and embedded payment capabilities.

This role is designed for a university student interested in fintech, financial services, digital platforms, or enterprise operations. The student will gain hands-on exposure to payments processing, operational performance metrics, partner ecosystems, and risk controls within a regulated enterprise environment.

The successful candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with data and cross-functional stakeholders. This role provides practical exposure to how payments businesses operate at scale, balancing growth, operational excellence, and risk management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Payments Operations & Business Support:

  • Support day-to-day operational monitoring of payments processing, settlement, onboarding, and partner performance.
  • Assist in tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transaction volumes, approval rates, fraud metrics, and customer experience.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reporting packages for Payments leadership.
  • Conduct analysis to identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvement opportunities.
  • Support documentation of operational workflows and process maps.

Platform & Ecosystem Exposure:

  • Assist in research and analysis related to embedded payments, fuel and mobility payments, digital wallets, and real-time payment trends.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives with Product, Technology, Operations, and Customer Success teams.
  • Help maintain documentation related to payments partners, processors, and banking relationships.
  • Contribute to competitive and market research to inform roadmap discussions.

Strategic & Analytics Projects:

  • Support business case development and financial analysis for new payments initiatives.

  • Build Excel-based models to analyze trends, cost drivers, and revenue performance.

  • Assist with annual planning and forecasting inputs for the Payments team.

  • Develop presentations for leadership meetings and project updates.

  • Reinforce trust with clients, partners, and regulators through consistent execution and transparency.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program (Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field)
  • Returning to school following the internship

Skills & Experience

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint (experience with data visualization tools is an asset)
  • Ability to synthesize data into clear insights and recommendations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and organizational capability
