The Opportunity
The Financial Services Department provides financial services to the City of
Lacombe, ensuring the consistent application of statutory requirements, municipal bylaws, and accounting standards. The Department also provides financial services to City-supported entities, such as its Commissions and the Library, as per established service levels.
Reporting to the Accounting Services Coordinator, the Finance Customer Service
Representative (CSR) provides frontline customer service and transactional financial support. As the frontline representative of the Finance team, the CSR delivers courteous, accurate, and professional service that reflects the City’s commitment to customer service excellence. The role consistently applies financial policies, bylaws, and internal controls while preparing accurate records for reconciliation and processing in the City’s financial systems, as per the scope of the position.
Within this mandate, the Finance Customer Service Team contributes directly to
safeguarding City revenues and maintaining audit-ready records, while supporting departmental integrity through reliable processes and effective service delivery. Together, the team helps uphold the City’s commitment to accountability, professionalism, and public trust.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent required; post-secondary coursework in business, accounting, or office administration considered an asset.
- 1–2 years of customer service, cash handling, or clerical experience required.
- Experience in municipal finance or public sector environment considered an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with Vadim/iCity or comparable systems preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered on a one-for-one basis except where statutory or unique requirements of the position dictate specific qualifications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Technical
- Knowledge of cash handling, receipting, and customer service practices.
- Ability to accurately process transactions and balance daily receipts.
- Knowledge of City policies, bylaws, and requirements related to customer account management, confidentiality, and privacy (training provided).
- Ability to perform accurate cash balancing and reconciliation.
Interpersonal/Leadership
- Ability to deal tactfully and professionally with customers in sensitive or challenging circumstances.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to confidentiality, accountability, and service excellence.
Administrative
- Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing deadlines, and adapt to changing demands.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently at the counter while contributing to the Finance team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Salary: $30.69 - $38.36 per hour (based on 37.5 hours per week, dependent upon
skills and experience). Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
The City offers a generous benefit package, including health and welfare
benefits, pension plan, and 6% vacation (approximately 3 weeks) to start.
