Unit Summary:
A 37 bed neuro medical surgical ICU that is also the regional stroke and neurosciences center. Specifically as a stroke and vascular center—we see patients requiring hyperacute stroke care, post endovascular thrombectomies, abdominal aortic aneurysms. All other patients are of the medical surgical nature.
The Unit is staffed by an interprofessional team. Our distinctive ICU offers first-rate care in an innovative environment supporting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of the community. Job Summary:
Reporting to the Clinical Manager of the Intensive Care Unit, the ideal candidate will be focused on providing superior patient centered care in a dynamic, complex and rapidly changing environment where they will be given the opportunity to drive innovation and change.
Position Summary:
- Under the direction of registered nursing staff, and in partnership with another attendant, assists in the provision of basic patient care.
- Some typical activities include: bathing, skin care, toileting, mouth care, dressing and undressing, grooming
- Provides physical assistance to patients as required, by assisting with lifts, transports, and transfers of patients Provides (oral) feeding assistance as required
- Assists physician with patient examination, as requested
- Collect and records patient information as directed, which could include assistance with the admission process as well as post-mortem care
- Documents patient care activities in accordance with Trillium policy
- Responsible for restocking as necessary, reporting diminished supplies to Clerical Leader
- Assists with maintenance of a clean, safe environment which includes identifying equipment for maintenance routines
- Under the direction of registered staff assists in checking soiled trays, ensuring all instruments are accounted for and put on SPD cart
- Reports to team all concerns, voiced by patients or family. Alerts team members when any change or concern about patient condition is raised
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested to support patient care and maintain a safe and clean environment
Key Qualifications:
- Minimum grade 12 or equivalent required
- Personal Support Worker Diploma/2 year Program or equivalent required
- Current BCLS & First Aide Certificates essential
- Previous Hospital/institutional Health Care experience required
- Current basic computer skills required
- Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to provide a safe level of care to patients & work as an effective member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team
- Must be a self-directed individual with well developed organizational skills
- Possess the ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision Must have the physical requirements to complete job duties A positive attendance and work record is required
