About You / What We Are Looking For
The City of Coquitlam is seeking an experienced Traffic Control Supervisor to join our Engineering and Public Works team. This critical role entails overseeing traffic control personnel (TCPs), liaising with various Public Works divisions on present and future operational sites to review work plans and projects, and determine traffic control requirements. Coordinating completed Traffic Control Plans with the Traffic and Street Use team to ensure compliance with other planned work requiring traffic disruptions. Some key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee Traffic Control Personnel (TCPs).
- Perform site inspections and safety audits.
- Maintain communication with clients, contractors, and municipalities.
- Developing Traffic Control Plans compliant with WorkSafeBC, and BC Ministry of Transportation.
- Track timesheets, daily logs, and incident reports.
- Provide training, mentorship, and on-site problem solving.
- Respond to urgent or short-notice dispatches as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
As this position requires a qualified individual, they must have proven experience in traffic control or related field with strong leadership skills. The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, multitask and prioritize a busy environment and be able to quickly change focus for emergency work.
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently and make quick, safety-focused decisions
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with clean driving record
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused
Preferred Qualifications
- Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) Certification
- First Aid or other safety-related certifications
- Experience coordinating lane closures or reading TMPs
- Familiarity with traffic control equipment and signage
- BCMSA Training Courses (Traffic Control Management, Planning and Layout, Lane Closures and Supervision)
What We Offer:
This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $38.21 - $40.78. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
