Job Overview
The Survey Manager will lead and oversee our survey teams to ensure project success. This role will plan, schedule, and monitor surveying activities, handle requests, and obtain necessary data. The Survey Manager will develop processes to enhance efficiency and quality, conduct reviews, and collaborate with other departments. Additionally, this role will manage equipment, lead training sessions, and ensure quality through regular reviews. As the Survey Manager, you will lead a dynamic survey team to deliver high-quality survey services that meet client needs and project requirements. This leadership role is responsible for planning and overseeing all aspects of survey operations—from resource allocation and budgeting to equipment management and cross-department collaboration. You will play a strategic role in maintaining and enhancing the performance of the survey team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Do
Responsibilities and Duties
Team Leadership & Operations
- Lead, coach, and support a team of 5–15 survey professionals, including responsibility for staffing decisions such as selection, training, performance evaluation, and discipline.
- Direct, schedule, prioritize, and monitor the activities of the surveying department to ensure deadlines, deliverables, and utilization targets are met.
- Work collaboratively with Civil Field Review and Civil Design teams to balance workload and support tasks such as dips, property bar reconnaissance, inspections, and additional survey support.
- Maintain official records and plan sets for the survey department, ensuring accurate and organized documentation.
Project Oversight & Financial Management
- Plan, assign, and oversee department activities to align with project budgets, quality expectations, and timelines.
- Receive and respond to internal and external survey requests (RFQs), planning fieldwork and data processing accordingly.
- Prepare or delegate estimates for project managers and clients and track related opportunities in CRM systems.
- Conduct regular quality assurance reviews and financial audits of survey work to mitigate risks and maintain high standards.
Process Development & Innovation
- Develop and implement standards, processes, and best practices to drive quality, efficiency, and consistency across the department.
- Assess departmental needs and lead change management strategies to implement improvements effectively.
- Integrate emerging technologies (e.g., LiDAR, drones, GNSS systems) to enhance survey capabilities and innovation.
Technical Expertise & Support
- Establish project-specific survey plans and outline related field and office procedures to guide execution.
- Perform fieldwork and technical duties as needed to meet client and project requirements.
- Ensure technical excellence in addressing and resolving both internal and external survey issues.
Equipment & Resource Management
- Manage the procurement, maintenance, and deployment of all survey equipment and field vehicles to support ongoing operations.
Training & Development
- Oversee the development and delivery of comprehensive training programs for intermediate and senior survey staff.
- Lead or delegate hands-on training for survey and civil staff on equipment use and processes, including GNSS Rovers, Base Stations, lasers, LiDAR, and drone technology.
Strategic Planning & Collaboration
- Make informed recommendations to the Field Services Manager and Civil Director on strategic initiatives, including financial, human resources, and long-term planning considerations.
- Support the success of high-profile projects through effective collaboration, innovation, and alignment with organizational objectives.
- Assist with various tasks and projects as assigned by supervisors or senior team members to support the overall success of the team and company objectives.

What You Bring to the Table
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent in surveying, geomatics, or a related field.
- Professional surveyor certification/license required. (C.E.T., AOLS, P.Eng., etc.)
- Minimum of 10 years of design and inspection experience in a consulting engineering or municipal environment, preferably in Ontario.
- Extensive experience in land surveying, with a strong understanding of surveying principles, techniques, and equipment.
- Thorough understanding of all relevant and applicable codes and legislation. (OPSS, Construction Lien Act), Ontario Land surveyor act, equipment limitations, industry best practices etc.
- Proven leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple crews and projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and project stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
