Position Overview The Financial Aid Officer plays a critical role in supporting students in their pursuit of education by providing financial assistance, guidance, and resources. This position involves administering a variety of financial aid programs, assisting students through the application process, and ensuring compliance with institutional, government, and agency regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, and dedicated to helping students achieve their educational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess students and families financial circumstances, advising on aid options, eligibility, and application processes.
- Provide ongoing support to students and families through phone, email, and in-person consultations regarding financial aid, admissions, and registration.
- Review and assess financial aid applications, applying professional judgment to determine eligibility and adjustments when necessary.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for financial inquiries, liaising between students, internal departments, government agencies, and financial institutions.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student financial records in compliance with policies and regulations.
- Provide academic advisement, referrals for crisis intervention, and arrange tutorial support as needed to assist students holistically.
- Ensure fair and consistent enforcement of AOLCC financial aid policies and procedures.
- Support enrollment and retention initiatives by promoting financial aid as an accessible pathway to education.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Previous experience in the Private Career College sector or post-secondary environment (asset).
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to provide compassionate, student-centered support.
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-volume, and time-sensitive business environments.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word required; experience with Student Information Systems or financial aid software an asset).
