About the role
Purpose & Position presentation:
The Daycare (Child-Care) Worker supports the daily care, safety, learning, and well-being of children in the MMFN Daycare Centre. The position assists with developmentally appropriate programming, culturally sensitive activities, healthy routines, and a clean, safe, and supportive daycare environment.
Core responsibilities:
- Assist with the planning and implementation of age-appropriate daycare programs and activities, ensuring that programming is culturally sensitive and supportive of children's development.
- Support children throughout the day by guiding, demonstrating, encouraging, and supervising activities in a safe and respectful manner.
- Help prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for children, in accordance with daycare routines and supervisor direction.
- Monitor and support the health, safety, and general well-being of children in care.
- Assist with parent questions and concerns and refer matters to the Daycare Supervisor when appropriate.
- Document observations and complete reports or records as required.
- Collaborate with the daycare team to identify and implement program improvements.
- Follow all daycare policies, rules, procedures, and guidelines for developmentally appropriate behaviour.
- Build and maintain professional working relationships with children, parents, caregivers, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Assist with maintaining a clean, organised, and safe daycare environment.
- Perform other related duties as reasonably assigned within the daycare.
Education/Experience/Essential requirements:
- Experience working with children in a daycare, preschool, school, recreation, family support, or similar child-focused setting is an asset.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to work respectfully with children, families, and coworkers.
- Ability to work well in a team setting, take initiative, and prioritise tasks.
- Professional, responsive, reliable, and positive work attitude.
- Understanding of confidentiality requirements in a child-care and family-service environment.
- Physical ability to carry and lift up to 45 pounds and perform work involving both standing and sitting.
- First Aid, CPR, ECE Assistant certification, or related training is considered an asset. Required:
A (recent, not older than 3 months) RCMP/Police abstract with Vulnerable sector check. Valid driving license and access to one’s own transportation vehicle. The setting is in a rural area with no public transportation available.
