Primary Purpose Of Position Maintain the safe operations of the Pickle Lines facilities, related equipment and personnel in a safe and efficient manner.
Reports To Area Manager Operations
Provides Leadership To Bargaining Unit Personnel, Assigned Service Groups, Contractors
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Administer the company safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the Operating facility
- Promote safety by various means (safety contacts, safety tours, incident investigations and follow-up, SDS and JSA review, equipment condition, etc.) and leads by example
- Ensure adherence to all environmental control procedures and relevant codes and standards
- Apply technical principles and problem-solving techniques to evaluate and resolve equipment issues to maximize operating efficiencies
- Supervise, direct and coordinate the efforts of experienced technicians, apprentices, co-ops and project planners to repair and maintain various mill equipment to keep the operations running at maximum efficiency with minimum interruption
- Use technical knowledge and maintenance history of equipment to develop and implement preventive maintenance programs
- Perform administrative activities such as scheduling and paying employees, completing maintenance reports, conducting safety conversations, and compiling other reporting as necessary by the operating facility
- Actively participate in recruitment screening and selection of prospective new hires
- Establish performance goals and objectives with Day Manager/Area Manager - Operations
Education/Experience/Qualifications From
- 2+ years of supervisory experience
- 3-5 years manufacturing maintenance experience
- 433A Industrial Millwright C of Q is an asset
- Unionized steel mill experience is an asset
- College Diploma/University Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology is an asset
Job Skills And Knowledge
- Good working knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices and required skills.
- Knowledge of electrical maintenance practices is an asset.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability and desire to work in a shop floor environment
- Proficient in MS Office
- An enthusiastic approach and ability to learn quickly and assume responsibility
- As a manager/supervisor of the company, qualified candidates for this role also must demonstrate the ability to manage change, communicate effectively, and lead high-performance teams.
Your work environment
- Fast-paced heavy industrial manufacturing environment for a high impact team
- The job is within a heavy industrial environment and you will be required to work within various areas of the facility
- Safety is our highest priority and safety procedures and guidelines must always be adhered to. This includes wearing PPE, such as a hard hat, protective ear and eye wear, respirator, flame retardant clothing and safety boots with metatarsal protection during the work shift
- Lake Erie Works facility operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year
- On call at times
- May be required to work straight days or shift work (12-hour shifts on a continental schedule, rotating days and nights)
- The position may require you to work overtime as needed
- A valid driver’s license and vehicle is required to work at this facility
