Job Title: Systems Analyst, Junior
*Please note. Candidate must be able to work in the office a minimum of 3 days per week in Guelph, ON.
Job Summary
The System Analyst, Junior position, under direct direction, is responsible for assisting in research and fact-finding to develop or modify information systems. Additional responsibilities include assisting in preparing detailed specifications from which programs will be written. In addition, evaluate and revise existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.
Responsibility
- Participate in various technical and systems related projects under the direction of Intermediate and Senior System Analyst – Technical resources.
- Work on projects such as new facility setups, integrations, software rollouts, hardware rollouts etc.
- Work with Intermediate and Senior resources and decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business standards and goals, and identify and resolve business issues, and document accordingly.
- Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
- Review and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
- Create and maintain project timelines.
- Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
- Create systems models, specifications, diagrams and charts to provide direction to application developers.
- Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
- Conduct research on hardware and software products to justify recommendations and support purchasing efforts.
- Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
- Record project activities such as dates, times and actions taken in logbooks.
- Evaluate acceptability of software performance.
- Compare results of manual and automated tests to technical specifications published by suppliers.
- Verify specifications such as throughput rates, load times, functionality and connectivity.
- Discuss task lists, schedules and workloads with coworkers and colleagues. Compare application load times to norms.
Academic/Educational Requirements
- Post-Secondary Education in Computer Science, Information Sciences, Management Information Systems, Business Administration or related field.
Required Skills/Experience
- Demonstrated experience in a previous information technology technical role.
- Prior experience in an IT development role is preferred.
- Ability to review Gantt charts to determine project schedules, resources being allocated and upcoming activities.
- Knowledge of desktop and server operating systems and hardware
- Knowledge of development tools, databases and reporting tools
