Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the Tax Assistant is an integral part of the Company’s Finance Department. Assisting the Corporate Controller, the Tax Assistant’ s main focus includes analyzing Canadian sales tax, and US sales and use tax.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with team members to successfully deliver value in tax services
  • Maintain best practices in Canadian corporate tax including PST, HST, QST, and US sales and use tax
  • Ensure up to date compliance with US and Canadian tax laws and regulations
  • Conduct research on Canadian and US sales and use tax
  • Ensure accurate filing on Canadian and US sales and use tax
  • Provide assistance and accuracy during tax audits, and respond to notices from tax authorities
  • Maintain comprehensive tax records and financial data for company use and audits
  • Gather and organize Canadian and US tax information, including financial statements, income records, and expense documentation
  • Utilize company tax software effectively
  • Other ad hoc duties as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant subject, e.g. accounting, finance, economics, taxation
  • Work experience in taxation role, including co-op experience considered a plus
  • Competency with MS Office including a strong command of Excel functions
  • Ability to apply an understanding of financial statements and other relevant non-tax financial and business information to the tax advisory and compliance work
  • Ability to work autonomously and commitment to delivering an excellent product
  • Strong organizational, time management skills and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work and perform under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical/problem solving ability
