CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA
In collaboration with all CMPA departments, the Technology, Analytics, and Privacy group (TAP) leads several enterprise management processes. The core functions include business capability enablement, cybersecurity, information systems management, privacy management, records and information management, business intelligence, data governance, and advanced analytics.
The Data & Business Intelligence (BI) team oversees all infrastructure that supports the data analysis and data management of CMPA business information while enabling data governance teams federated across the CMPA. BI administers and maintains analytical systems and maintains an enterprise data warehouse that provides historical, current, as well as predictive views of business operations. The team services all internal users with traditional report development and distribution, complex custom ad-hoc information requests, as well as supports the needs of other analytics teams by providing and regularly updating data subsets.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Manager, Data & Business Intelligence, the BI Solutions Analyst plays a key role to enable fact-based decision making at the Association and the realization of the CMPA’s strategic and operational goals. This is accomplished by the development of various BI Solutions including data marts, reports, queries, and dashboards.
The BI Solutions Analyst collaborates with the Business Capability Enablement team, other BI Analysts, and the Data Management team to support the achievement of corporate priorities and plans while also working effectively independently to gather and define internal client requirements, build end user reports, and seek to answer business questions via data analysis. The incumbent also works closely with the BI Architect on the logical and physical model as well as the Data Acquisition (ETL) Analyst for source models. Additionally, the BI Solutions Analyst acts as back up to others on the team, and at times supports data governance activities.
POSITION ACTIVITIES
- Works with business representatives to elicit information requirements in support of departmental decision-making and insights generation
- Performs data analysis to support the development of BI solutions that address the information needs of internal clients
- Develops, tests, and maintains corporate or operational reports, queries, dashboards or scorecards
- Installs, configures, and maintains BI application software (IBM Cognos, Informatica)
- Plays a key role in data quality management with key CMPA stakeholders (data owners, data stewards, source system experts, and knowledge experts)
- Maintains existing BI solutions and provides data extracts based on ad-hoc requests
- Contributes to the departmental planning, budgeting, and capacity planning processes
- Identifies and leads the resolution and documentation of complex data and/or BI solution issues
- Leads user training on new BI systems prior to system release
- Participates in vendor and/or technology evaluation and selection and makes recommendations as new solutions become available
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge on technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices
- Ensures technical standards and best practices in BI and analytics and data management are followed
- Works collaboratively with ITS development teams and other technical groups to evolve application architecture, manage technical debts, mitigate risks, and plan for technology changes
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum four-year Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study or additional experience equivalent to education may be considered
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of 3 years of experience developing BI reports utilizing IBM Analytics (Cognos) or a similar toolset
- Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) or Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) designations considered an asset
- Experience developing and delivering successful Business Intelligence solutions
- Experience preparing and performing complex data analyses (data cleaning and preparation, analysis and critical thinking, data visualization, communication)
- Experience working with databases, coding, internal systems and programming
- Sound understanding of Structured Query Language (SQL) required, experience with PL/SQL (Oracle) an asset
- Sound understanding of database architecture
- Strong experience utilizing IBM Analytics (Cognos) or similar toolsets required
- Experience working with senior management
- Understanding of data warehousing methodologies
- Understanding of business processes (Medico-Legal, Finance, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Risk Management, and/or Corporate Performance Measurement) is an asset
- Experience working with cloud-based technologies; Workday and/or SugarCRM experience is an asset
- Experience working in cross-functional teams in a project-based environment
- Experience writing training guides and materials
- Experience with Informatica or other data transformation tools in a data warehouse environment is an asset
