##Overview
This is clerical and typing work involving mainly the transcribing of audio taped statements given to the police during their investigations. The incumbent must possess excellent organizational, multi-tasking and problem solving skills.
##Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Transcribe statements.
- Maintain administrative files.
- Maintain databases.
- Perform basic clerical functions such as creating letters, dealing with office records such as forms, templates, or other materials, organizing large volumes of documents or maintaining data bases and inventories.
- Monitor, track and order office supplies.
- Prepare outgoing mail, distribute incoming mail.
- Provide timely and accurate information and clerical assistance to others in the department.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
##Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Sound knowledge of clerical and record keeping methods and procedures.
- Sound knowledge of the practices and procedures used in the operation of word processing software and Dictaphone equipment.
- Sound knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the work performed.
- Sound knowledge and practices of various computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Knowledge of RCMP systems is an asset.
- Ability to transcribe accurately from taped statements.
- Ability to type at least 50 wpm.
- Ability to exercise independence of judgment and action in determining priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to remain professional and composed while transcribing statements which may be expletory or disturbing.
- Ability to effectively prioritize work.
- Ability to maintain concentration despite the noise and distractions of a large, open office.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships and to deal effectively with internal contacts in matters applicable to the work.
- Complete proficiency in English and sound knowledge of spelling and grammar and the ability to format standard business letters.
- Ability to use REDMS or a similar records management system.
- Ability to obtain and maintain RCMP enhanced security clearance.
##Qualifications and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by computer courses and typing, plus up to 1 year sound related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
##Working Conditions:
Duties are performed in an office environment and involve carrying weight greater than 10 kgs.
