Hydraulics Technician (Reliability Specialist) Job Location : Nanticoke, ON (with travel to the Hamilton facility at times) Department: Based out of Hot Strip Mill servicing both facilities

Primary Purpose Of Position The Hydraulics Technician (Reliability Specialist) will be responsible for hydraulic issues across facilities Nanticoke and Hamilton and Pickle line, testing and servicing hydraulic lube and grease systems. This role requires a high attention to detail with strong technical and mechanical trouble shooting skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with maintenance, engineering and operations to drive improvements and reduce costs.

Reports To Area Manager Maintenance, Hot Strip Mill

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and maintain critical grease, lube, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Basic understanding of PLC control, HMIs, and its integration into all systems.
  • Strong understanding of servo valves and servo systems, fast response to servo/proportional valves.
  • Ability to troubleshoot from blueprints and various test equipment
  • Provide technical leadership in maintaining the safe standards for operations and maintenance on all hydraulics and lubricating systems
  • Follow and assist in the maintenance of environmental standards.
  • Support maintenance and operations groups by assisting with analysis, troubleshooting, and correction of problems as required to restore to operation equipment or processes.
  • Contribute to the development of job procedures and best practices.
  • Provide and review specifications for new equipment and consumables in keeping with good management of the company’s resources.
  • Respond to the needs of the facility, develop training programs and curriculum, and may be required to provide training to employees as needed.

Education/Experience/Qualifications From

  • 3+ years of experience with hydraulic, lube and grease maintenance and troubleshooting and implementing upgrades as items become obsolete.
  • 433A Millwright Certificate of Qualification
  • Candidates with a College Diploma/University Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technologist will be considered
  • Unionized steel mill experience is an asset
  • Hands on experience as a mechanic/ millwright and hydraulics is a strong asset

Job Skills And Knowledge

  • Sound theoretical knowledge of hydraulics and lubrication for industrial machinery.
  • Ability to understand and read drawings.
  • Experience with hydraulic equipment, including but not limited to basic pistons pumps, pressure compensated units, hydraulic cylinders, valve equipment, hydraulic hardware, proportionally controlled systems, servo valves, etc.
  • Experience in troubleshooting lubrication and hydraulic systems.

  • Fast-paced manufacturing environment for a high impact team
  • The job is within a heavy industrial environment, and you will be required to work within various areas of the facility
  • Safety is our highest priority and safety procedures and guidelines must always be adhered to. This includes wearing PPE, such as a hard hat, protective ear and eye wear, respirator, flame retardant clothing and safety boots with metatarsal protection during the work shift
  • Nanticoke facility operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year
  • Work schedule is days, Monday to Friday
  • The position may require you to work overtime as needed
  • On call at times
  • A valid driver’s license and vehicle is required to work at this facility
