What You’ll Be Doing
As the Senior Manager, Operational Risk, you will leverage your expertise to oversee CIBC’s global operational risk exposures. This includes providing strategic guidance on governance, operational risk management, and the implementation of robust control frameworks across people, technology, processes, and external events. Your deep knowledge will inform the development and execution of effective risk management plans and standards. In this role, you will ensure dedicated coverage for Risk Management and provide support for Treasury and Finance functions. You will collaborate with the Senior Director to contribute to senior management reporting, including regular operational risk updates for various risk governance committees and internal reports on key operational risk elements for the Vice President.

How You'll Succeed
- Independent Challenge - Provide independent challenge to business lines’ operational and control assessments and recommendations. Review operational incidents, change initiatives (CIRA), and risk & control self-assessments (RCSAs). As a second line of defense for the management of operational risk, this role requires a good understanding of Risk Management as well as knowledge of Treasury and Finance. The candidate would have good knowledge and understanding of key sources of operational risks related to processes, system and data flows for the assigned functional groups Constructively challenge senior bank employees to ensure robust risk management and controls.
- Advisory Support - Collaborate with partners in assigned businesses and subject matter experts (SMEs) across both the first (1LOD) and second lines of defense (2LOD). Ensure operational risks are accurately identified, assessed, monitored, measured, and mitigated. Demonstrate pragmatism and a solutions-oriented approach in facilitating management’s use of risk and control identification and assessment tools (e.g., external event reviews, incident reports, CIRAs, RCSAs). Contribute to the continuous improvement of risk assessment tools and controls by providing feedback and leveraging industry standards.
- Proactive Oversight - Identify material and emerging risks through proactive risk reviews and monitoring of Key Risk Indicators and external events. Utilize industry knowledge and professional networks to stay abreast of developments.Communicate areas of concern effectively to ensure timely and appropriate risk mitigation actions.
- Building Partnerships & Effective Communication - Establish and maintain strong working relationships with assigned businesses, control groups, and other risk associates. Provide valuable advice on operational risk management and control strategies, including risk mitigation approaches. Promote a culture of controls and operational risk awareness throughout the organization. Manage senior internal relationships to encourage the adoption and implementation of operational risk and control framework programs.
Who you are
- You can demonstrate experience in Risk Management, Treasury, Finance and/other relevant areas including risk governance, controls and compliance; and have experience with one or more areas of the bank’s key risk functions including credit risk, market risk, anti-money laundering/anti-terrorist financing.
- You are proficient in Microsoft suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
