About the role

Core Molding Technologies is hiring a Controls Engineer to support automation, PLC systems, and controls engineering at our manufacturing plant in Cobourg, Ontario .

This role focuses on equipment upgrades, system troubleshooting, and the integration of modern controls solutions to improve performance, reliability, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily plant operations with troubleshooting, electrical diagnostics, and controls expertise
  • Design, implement, and upgrade control systems for molding and assembly equipment
  • Lead automation and modernization initiatives for plant processes
  • Execute capital projects from concept through installation and validation
  • Develop and maintain electrical drawings, PLC logic, HMI programs, and related documentation
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to manage equipment integration
  • Support maintenance and production with training and technical guidance
  • Reduce downtime, scrap, and cycle times through process optimization
  • Ensure controls and electrical systems comply with ESA, CSA, M.O.L., and safety standards
  • Assist with environmental and safety compliance for plant systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (P.Eng.preferred)
  • PLC programming experience (required)
  • Experience with HMI, SCADA, and Ethernet-based systems (required)
  • Strong understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems
  • Familiar with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and technical documentation
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, control panel design, and control system architecture
  • Ability to read P&ID and process flow diagrams
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills
  • Ability to work after hours or weekends to support 24/7 plant operations if needed

Preferred

  • Experience in manufacturing or process industries
  • Background in system migration or upgrading legacy controls platforms
  • Familiarity with safety interlocks, control panel standards, and field device integration

Job Details

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday (may require after-hours support as needed)
  • Travel: Occasional (mainly local or within Canada, supporting vendors or equipment sourcing)
  • Location: Single-plant support role
  • Physical Requirements: Occasionally lift/move up to 20 lbs
