HDR is currently seeking a Solid Waste Coordinator to join our Solid Waste Practice in Canada. You will work under the direction of senior professional engineers and designers by supporting complex assignments.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the solid waste field. This should include direct experience or transferable engineering/project management skills and experiences that can be readily applied to all types of facilities such as solid waste management/infrastructure facilities, including transfer station, public drop off, composting, resource recovery/material and energy recovery, and landfill facilities. Your involvement with site planning, conceptual and detailed design development, permitting and approvals, operations and maintenance plans, closure and costing will be important. Previous experience with project feasibility reports, procurement and construction document preparation, performance-based and prescriptive technical specifications, contractor selection and construction management would be an added asset. The candidate is also expected to be working towards obtaining their P.Eng. designation, and it is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that all requirements for P.Eng. licensing are completed in a timely manner to not have delays in the licensing process (i.e. technical test, ethics/law test). The candidate must have access to a vehicle to attend any site visits or field work that may be required.
In the role of an Solid Waste Coordinator, we will count on you to assist Project Managers/Project Engineers with:
- Preparation of permit, bid, and construction level drawings, and supporting specifications.
- Developing conceptual plans, site layouts, grading plans and sections, underground utility plans, and stormwater drainage plans.
- Performing routine engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures.
- Performing administrative duties associated with project management for civil/site projects.
- Performing other general support duties as needed.
- Attend site visits and complete field work on an as needed basis
Preferred Qualifications
- General environmental engineering experience , but will consider entry level candidates, particularly with prior internship experience in a related field
- Hazwoper 40 hour training is strongly recommended .
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and GIS experience
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or closely related Engineering field
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
