##Responsibilities
The Accounting Assistant (Reimbursements) role exists to ensure the overall timely and accurate processing and payment of travel expense reports, Professional Expense Reimbursements and cash advances. The role contributes to the effective stewardship of funds through monitoring expense claims in line with policy and procedures.
The main focus of the role is to process manual travel expense claims and professional expense reimbursements, and to perform the online audit of travel expense reports for overall reasonability and adherence to Western’s travel and expense policies. In addition, this role acts as the first point of contact for Western departments and employees for inquiries relating to claim status and processing, payment timing, and policy clarification.
##Qualifications
Education:
- 2 year Community College Diploma in Accounting or Business with at least 1 course in Accounting
Experience:
- 2 years’ experience using computerized accounting systems (preferably PeopleSoft)
- Customer service and audit experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization
- Strong customer services skills to handle enquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
- Ability to process information with high level of accuracy.
- Ability to analyze information against pre-established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to growth and change
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, with little supervision, to take initiative to follow through and achieve results
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide guidance and support to staff, faculty, students
- Knowledge and experience working in financial systems and intermediate Microsoft Office skills (including Excel)
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple conflicting priorities in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
