About the role
Overview REAL ALLOY is the market leader in third-party aluminum recycling and specification alloy production. We have 17 plants strategically located across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. We convert aluminum scrap and by-products into reusable aluminum metal for a growing number of applications across various industries. We are ideally positioned to respond to the needs of an increasingly recycling-conscious world. Advanced technologies enable us to process a large variety of scrap and dross and reduce the amount of residual waste from aluminum manufacturing that would otherwise end up as landfill. This position is located in MISSISSAUGA, CANADA.
Responsibilities This role is responsible for ensuring a safe and compliant working environment, overseeing the operational readiness of production equipment and facilities, and implementing preventative and predictive maintenance programs. It involves tracking and improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), identifying workflow bottlenecks, and driving productivity enhancements. The position manages departmental budgets, cost reduction initiatives, and financial reporting, while also training, coaching, and evaluating maintenance staff. It includes managing contractors and suppliers, scheduling maintenance activities with financial modeling, and maintaining accurate equipment documentation. Additional duties involve performing basic engineering tasks, conducting audits and inspections, using internal software for inventory and work orders, and coordinating equipment shutdowns. The role also ensures compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) standards, upholds high housekeeping benchmarks, and leads both the Maintenance and Mobile Equipment departments in alignment with company policies and legal requirements.
Qualifications The ideal candidate holds a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and brings over five years of industrial experience, particularly in planning, maintenance, continuous improvement, and supervising skilled trades. They possess certifications in electrical, mechanical, and maintenance disciplines, along with a solid understanding of building, electrical, and natural gas codes. Strong multitasking and analytical abilities are essential, complemented by effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Proficiency in software tools such as AutoCAD, Ignition, MVP, Microsoft Office, and Oracle is required. Experience in a unionized environment and familiarity with aluminum production processes are valuable assets, as is a working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
