As an Online Report Specialist with the Records Processing Unit, you will provide service to the public by processing their online police reports, fielding questions that come through the telephone Helpline and calling members of the public directly to complete a police report for them. These reports cover a complete range of offences and occurrences being investigated by police officers. Primary duties include:

  • Review and analyze the online reports to determine if they can be approved, need follow-up for more information or should be rejected. Complete data entry into internal police systems.
  • Process data to comply with Calgary Police Service (CPS) policies and Statistics Canada reporting requirements.
  • Contact victims of crime to process their police reports over the telephone and enter pertinent information.
  • Respond to queries or provide follow up information to citizens on the telephone Helpline and e-mails.
  • Monitor online reports to identify emerging crime trends, conduct analytical searches using the database and notify analysts promptly of any relevant observations.
  • Liaise with members of the Police Online Investigations Team and Organized Crime Team to discuss online reported crime incidents and determine their investigative viability.
  • Process auto theft statements and upload documentation for records retention.
  • Adherence to Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) regulations and a strict commitment to not disclosing confidential information to the public regarding criminal incidents.

Working Conditions: Exposure to graphic and disturbing details and materials.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED) with a minimum of 1 year office experience with an emphasis on data entry.
  • Expertise in analyzing and inputting large volumes of information into Records Management Systems, with a strong emphasis on customer service.
  • Applicants must be able to type 50 words per minute, possess excellent spelling and proofreading skills, and the ability to deal with sensitive and/or graphic material.
  • Proficiency in computer skills utilizing complex databases is required.
  • Experience processing occurrence reports in the Sentry database or online reporting system, such as CopLogic, with a strong emphasis on customer service is an asset.
  • Previous experience in a police or court environment is also an asset.

Pre-employment Requirements .

  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
  • Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
