Position Overview The company is seeking a Production Controller to manage the production accounting operations for all U.S. and Canadian non-union, non-scripted shows and pilot productions. The role will be responsible for accounting, payroll management, and financial reporting throughout all stages of production.
This is a full-time, permanent position that reports directly to the Director of Finance and the CEO .
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the company's entire production accounting function.
- Supervise one full-time employee and coordinate the work of part-time or temporary production accounting staff.
- Establish new production entities as required, including opening dedicated production bank accounts and setting up third-party payment platforms.
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities such as payroll processing, vendor payments, intercompany transactions, bank reconciliations, and government filing submissions.
- Prepare tax credit estimates, production cash flow forecasts, and financing plans for upcoming and ongoing productions.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of Canadian and U.S. film tax credit applications and other regulatory filings.
- Maintain organized and accurate documentation to support tax credits and compliance with government agencies.
- Generate monthly production cost reports and other financial statements for review by corporate finance and the production team.
- Review general ledger accounts to ensure transactions are correctly classified and recorded.
- Track receivables and milestone payments from broadcasters and funding partners, issue invoices upon completion of milestones, and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Prepare audit documentation including tax credit schedules, cost breakdowns, account reconciliations, and vendor or related-party reports.
- Support the preparation and submission of financial reports required by banks, broadcasters, and funding organizations.
- Provide assistance with additional financial tasks and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in production accounting.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Strong proficiency in production accounting software, particularly the Entertainment Partners suite of products.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
- Highly organized, dependable, and responsive.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Quick learner with the ability to adopt new tools and technologies.
- Experience with Canadian and U.S. film tax credits and incentive programs is considered an asset.
- U.S. payroll experience is also an asset.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
