The Saskatoon Police Service is looking for an experienced and people-focused leader to join our Information Technology Division as Manager, Support and Operations. As the manager responsible for the IT Service Desk and IT Operations teams, this role is ideal for someone who thrives on building strong relationships, coaching and developing staff and exceptional customer service. While a solid technical background is important, success in this position comes from your ability to build and lead high-performing teams, support and mentor technical staff and confidently manage challenging situations in a dynamic, 24/7 environment. Duties:
- Provides leadership and support to staff to help manage workloads, priorities and activities to ensure system functionality and availability while maintaining a high level of customer service in a 24/7 environment.
- Manages assigned staff; hires, assigns work schedules, assesses staffing needs, identifies and requests other resources if necessary. Plans and approves staff development and initiates the performance management process.
- Identifies and manages information technology related risks and provides recommendations.
- Maintains up-to-date detailed knowledge of professional information technology frameworks, best practices and trends that drive continuous improvement.
- Act as the primary Incident Handler and manages the response to incidents and outages affecting critical services.
- Collaborates with the IT Security Administrator to help implement and operationalize security controls.
- Builds and maintains relationships with other organizational units within the Service, City of Saskatoon, other police agencies, partners and vendors as it relates to the various information technology support and operations functions.
- Manages information technology projects related to infrastructure, IT operations and the service desk.
- Prepares capital and operating budget requests, participates in divisional annual budget planning and provides budget reports as required.
- Drives the creation and execution of preventative maintenance plans, including maintenance of a ten-year infrastructure life-cycle plan.
- Prepares and presents reports as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science.
- Four to six years’ related experience, including planning and leading projects, preparing business cases, budgets and reports.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a current ITIL 4 or similar Certification.
- Excellent customer service skills and experience building and maintaining relationships.
- Knowledge of police information technologies and systems is an asset.
- Understanding of municipal procurement processes and experience with competitive procurements would be an asset.
- Ability to lead multiple teams in a common direction towards identified goals.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software and data errors in a production environment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and plan own work schedule in order to meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work as a team member to develop complex software and hardware solutions in a police environment.
- Ability to pass the Saskatoon Police Service security clearance process.
Salary:
$99,636.00 to $117,072.00 per annum (2025 rates)
