About the role
Oulton College is looking for a Defensive Tactics instructor on a contract basis. The course prepares students to work safely and effectively in law enforcement or security settings. This course emphasizes critical thinking, situational awareness, and tactical decision-making while equipping students with practical skills and best practices relevant to law enforcement personnel.
Some of the responsibilities you can expect are:
- Deliver engaging and practical instruction in defensive tactics.
- Implement lesson plans aligned with learning outcomes.
- Provide hands-on demonstrations and supervise student practice of techniques.
- Evaluate student performance through both practical and written assessments.
- Incorporate real-world examples and best practices from policing, corrections, and security fields.

Requirements

Relevant post-secondary education and/or professional training in law enforcement, policing, corrections, or related field.

Significant professional experience in law enforcement, corrections, or security, with demonstrated expertise in defensive tactics.

Knowledge of Canadian Criminal Code and authority for use of force.

Strong instructional, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Previous teaching or training experience is considered an asset.

Current certifications (defensive tactics, use of force, firearms safety, etc.) are an asset.
Relevant post-secondary education and/or professional training in law enforcement, policing, corrections, or related field.
