Student, Security Operations Centre

Number of Positions: 1

Term: May 4th, 2026 to August 28th, 2026

Schedule: 37.5 hours per week

Location: Ottawa, HQ

Salary: $18.15 to $30.20/hourly rate dependent on level of education.

  • Eligibility List: CATSA will use this opportunity to establish a list of candidates eligible to fill subsequent vacancies. The eligibility list may be used to staff other student positions with similar responsibilities and qualifications.

CATSA’s Security Operations Centre (SOC) operates 24 hours per day and is responsible for receiving, recording and reporting all critical security incidents at designated airports. Candidates must be prepared to work a variety of shifts between the hours of 0530 and 0000 seven days a week. Student shifts range from five to ten hours in length and the position is considered primary on-site at the CATSA office located downtown Ottawa.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responds to video requests by isolating the relevant footage and follows CATSAs incident management procedures.
  • Supports the SOC Operators in emergencies and helps to mitigate incidents by coordinating the retrieval and reporting of all required documentation.
  • Receives and makes phone calls related to all screening incidents.
  • Documents incidents as well as potential claims or complaints.
  • Provides front line support to resolve ongoing incidents or to return forgotten or lost items at the checkpoint.

What you need to succeed
To qualify for the position, you must have:

  • Enrolled in a college diploma relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook).
  • Language Profile: Bilingual.

  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively to identify clients’ key concerns.
  • Ability to analyze data and make recommendations.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills and the ability to maintain positive working relationships with clients and the general public.
  • Strong report writing and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a contributing team member.
  • Ability to manage time and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to take direction and work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Display good judgement and discretion.

To qualify and to be considered for this employment, you must;

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
  • Be eligible to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Be a full-time or part-time CEGEP, College or University student; and
  • Be returning to full-time or part-time studies in the next academic year.
