Job Purpose

Under limited supervision, required to assemble, troubleshoot, and operate mechanical/electrical equipment and systems, involving work of a varied nature. Ability to perform general Maintenance and related work to renovate, maintain, and repair machines, equipment, and other company property. Assists the Engineers, Millwrights, and Electricians as required and works closely with the Plant Production team to provide a quick response to production maintenance requests.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set up and perform tear down for all production machines: Formax, Superflex, Opt Flower, Multidrum, fryers, mixers, conveyors, MP drum, Vemag, Revo former, etc.

  • Be able to perform the oil transfer for all fryers;

  • Repair broken belts and perform belt replacement.

  • Operate and replace the filter in the Oberlin;

  • Able to replace mechanical parts for the machines;

  • Understand wiring belt codes and identify them to choose the proper one to be replaced;

  • Complies with the company’s safety procedures including but not limited to federal, state, and local regulations, plus environmental requirements in performing job tasks.

  • Comply will all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) as specified in yearly GMP training to include maintenance-specific training.

  • Performs all tasks as per recommended job methods, procedures, etc., particularly on the repair and installation of production machines, bearings, seals and their alignment.

  • Carries out preventive maintenance tasks to Production & common areas

  • Diagnose complex and common faults of mechanical equipment by inspection and using appropriate tools and perform preventive maintenance.

  • Installs and aligns new/existing machines for day-to-day production requirements.

  • Plans and organizes all aspects of work and job assignments, in an efficient and productive way.

  • Generates parts requests to ensure adequate inventory.

  • Maintains work areas in clean and safe conditions, removing all waste on completion of job, or earlier if necessary.

  • Communicates job-related facts, and information to customers, supervision, and other employees in oral, written, or drawing form.

  • Completes tasks at the request of the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor.

  • Maintains prompt and courteous response to production team requests within the guidelines set forth by Grand River Foods Ltd.

  • Able to perform under limited supervision the repair, replacement, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of the following items: tubing, fittings and air supply, pressure devices, level switch, temperature sensor, flow meters, regulators and valves, machinery lubrication, alignment of machinery, power drives, identifying machine components, water pumps, pneumatic systems, hydraulic system, vacuum systems, fans and blowers, select pipes, valves and fittings, control system (sensor, limit switch, PLC input/output feedback), compressors, all filters, belts, bearings, gearbox, chains, welding.

  • Microsoft Excel: Create a spreadsheet, print, etc.

  • Microsoft Word: Know how to write a report, create PDFs, attach pictures, format the file, print, etc.

  • CMMS System: create work orders, update the system, close work orders, etc

  • Email: create and manage emails.

  • Other duties as required or instructed.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 1-3 years working with industrial machinery within the maintenance department,
  • Courses related to mechanical/electrical aptitude,
  • Maths literacy,
  • Ability to undertake assessment test as part of selection criteria,
  • Ability to interpret line set drawings,
  • Electrical knowledge to replace lamps and familiarity with thermostats to replace batteries.
  • Thorough familiarity and knowledge of power and hand tools/equipment,
  • Undergo an initial 3-week assessment on competence.

Skills Required:

  • Basic reading, writing, and maths skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical Aptitude
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 kilograms required.

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English

  • Maintain good attendance
