About the role

BMO Digital Core Customer Identity Access Management ( CIAM ) team is looking for a lead software developer for one of the bank’s most critical digital and security application. We are looking for candidates who potentially become security expert of IAM platform at Enterprise level, who can proficiently handle backend development , REST API development and ideally has had some experiences of Enterprise scale Identity Access Management / Security Application ( e.g. IBM ISAM or ISVA ).

The BMO Digital Core Customer Identity Access Management ( CIAM ) team is responsible for securing BMO’s flagship Web & Mobile applications such as Canadian Digital Banking, US Digital Banking and BMO Online Banking for Business. Our application securely capture and handle BMO Retail and Commercial customers’ identity and profile information, enabling customers’ secured access to BMO’s digital applications and digital products. CIAM application is a key component that supports the bank’s Digital First strategy. As a CIAM developer, you will interact with various teams and lines of business within BMO to help provide end-to-end solutions for their applications. In addition, you will be exposed to common internet protocols such as HTTP, AJAX, JSON, and REST APIs. You will also have an opportunity to learn about other cloud native providers (AWS, Azure, Auth0, Ping Identity, Okta) as we continue our endeavor to move CIAM application to the cloud.

As a lead software developer, they will help drive the overall software development lifecycle including working across functional teams to transform requirements into features, managing development teams and processes, and conducting software testing and maintenance. Specific project areas of focus includes translating user requirements into technical specifications, writing code and managing the preparation of design specifications. Supports system design, provides advice on security requirements and debugs business systems and service applications. Applies deep knowledge of algorithms, data structures and programming languages to develop high quality technology applications and services - including tools, standards, and relevant software platforms based on business requirements.

A successful CIAM developer must learn and understand the core processes and requirements within the business unit as well as the architecture patterns and technology strategies (e.g., Transformation, Digital Core, DevOps). They must be able to successfully design, develop and deploy detailed solutions that adhere to the security, logging, error handling, and performance standards ensure that it aligns with our architecture patterns and technology strategy. A successful CIAM developer must be a self-starter, be a team player, have strong communication skills, is naturally inquisitive, have strong work ethic and a desire to produce high quality code and solutions.

  • Supports research and development of development frameworks, and definition of standards.
  • Leads and implements initiatives as required to deliver business objectives.
  • Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.
  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders and ensures alignment.
  • Monitors and tracks performance, and addresses any issues.
  • Reviews the work of other team members as required.
  • Provides input into the planning and implementation of operational programs.
  • Decomposes business requirements and translates them into detailed design specifications and code.
  • Interacts with key business & technology stakeholders to define, analyze, and deliver requirements that reflect the needs of both the business and end-customers.
  • Assesses the costs and benefits for different solutions and recommend/decide on appropriate designs.
  • Designs solutions, writes code, performs unit testing, develops appropriate artefacts / documentation, and facilitates final delivery.
  • Supports production issues, includes independently completing root-cause analysis and diagnosis.
  • Devises new algorithms and data structures for target environment and platform attributes in alignment with architectural patterns.
  • Builds solutions that are supportable, scalable and achieve our aspiration of common assets.
  • Recommends or automates approaches to streamline and integrate technological processes and/or systems to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Supports the management of specific project deliverables & outcomes.
  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen the development capability, such as: sharing expertise to promote technical development, mentoring employees, building communities of practice and networks.
  • Stays abreast of industry technical and business trends through participation in professional associations, practice communities & individual learning.
  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficient level of knowledge in domain.
  • Knowledge of software development practices, concepts, and technology obtained through formal training and/or work experience.
  • Knowledge of required programming languages and can code with little oversight, specially in Java
  • Knowledge of technical/business environment and processes.
  • Understand functional aspects and technical behavior of the underlying operating system, development environment, and deployment practices.
  • Have facility with and understanding of the ecosystem that code operates in.
  • Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience.

Technical Expertise:

  • Knowledge of IBM Security Access Manager (ISAM/ISVA)
  • Securing Web resource using ACL, POP and Authorization rule policies
  • Configuring users using Active Directory as a Federated directory
  • Knowledge of Kerberos Single-Sign On with IBM Access Manager (nice to have)
  • Experience with JavaScript
  • Good understanding of various web technologies, such as HTTP, REST APIs, AJAX, HTML, XML, JSON, etc.
  • Knowledge of programming concepts, such as OOP, Data Structures, Sync/Async, libraries/frameworks, etc.
  • Experience with development tools, such as npm, JUnit/Postman, Chrome developer tools, etc.
  • Knowledge of DevOps concepts and tools
  • Very nice to have experience in Cloud development

Salary: $75,900.00 - $141,900.00

Pay Type: Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
