We are currently seeking a talented individual to join our Transportation team. This position is responsible for providing supervisory and technical assistance at a professional level in various phase of design and construction for transportation infrastructure and related projects carried out by the Transportation Engineering Branch. The focus of this position will be Highway Design and Construction, and you will be working in the office on project design phases during the winter months and primarily working in the field during the construction season (April-October). As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for assisting with project development and planning, performing preliminary through detailed design and engineering, cost estimating, and preparation of tender documents. During construction, you will be responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities, including coordination with Contractors, quality management, tracking material quantities, schedule and progress reporting, and assisting with the supervision of the project inspection team.

Essential Qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • University degree in Engineering with a focus on Civil or related discipline.

  • Registration or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) with Engineers Yukon.

  • Experience in Highways, Roads, Culverts or other related Civil Infrastructure design and construction.

  • Experience with project coordination and/or contract administration.

  • Experience with various computer applications and engineering software (e.g. CAD or drafting software, design/modelling software).

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Desired knowledge, skills and suitability

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture. Key competencies for success in this role include:

  • Knowledge of Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Guidelines related to geometric design and knowledge of engineering standards and practices related to highway design and construction.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles, decision making and evaluation skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and standards within construction zones.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently. Strong Interpersonal and leadership skills.

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:

  • Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license
  • Registered or eligible for registration with Engineers Yukon (EY) & capable of registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EY within 6 months.
