About the role

We are seeking a seasoned Digital Architect to define and deliver enterprise-grade architecture solutions enabling our customer and broker channels. In this role, you will develop and articulate strategies and architectures that align business and technology objectives, ensuring clarity and shared understanding across collaborators. You’ll collaborate closely with Digital Business and Digital Engineering teams. Your work will uphold architectural standards, governance frameworks, and procedures, supporting Aviva’s long-term strategic direction and modernization priorities.

Digital Products include customer-facing and broker-facing web and mobile experiences across Aviva’s digital channels.

What You'll Do Solutions and Assurance:

  • Elicit, understand, and document Digital Product objectives, including customer‑centric outcomes and technology strategies such as modernization and cloud‑first adoption.
  • Contribute to the definition and evolution of the Digital Product roadmap to ensure alignment with strategic business and technology objectives.
  • Define and maintain Digital Product and feature‑level architectures that support scalability, security, and long‑term maintainability.
  • Design modernization solution architectures to remediate technology debt, address architectural gaps, and enable future capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and delivery teams in the development and refinement of the product backlog, ensuring architectural integrity and feasibility.
  • Communicate complex architectural and technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical collaborators and document solution and technical debt for planned remediation.
  • Identify architectural and delivery risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and participate in post‑implementation reviews to drive continuous improvement of solution design and delivery practices.

Technical Leadership

  • Keep informed on digital and web technologies, platforms and tooling.
  • Define and enforce architecture procedures and standards; conduct reviews to ensure compliance and quality.
  • Produce and peer-review design artifacts supporting service, security, and engineering needs.
  • Mentor and coach team members, promoting collaboration and technical growth.

Design Community Membership

  • Contribute to Aviva’s Solution Architecture community by leading or supporting initiatives that improve design practices.
  • Continuously developing technical skills to help Aviva leverage emerging technology trends.

Problem Solving & Change Leadership

  • Drive project-based problem solving, applying technical expertise to resolve issues and recommend design solutions aligned with policy and process.
  • Adapt to change proactively, proposing improvements and influencing design decisions to meet evolving business needs.

Collaboration & External Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with internal teams including product managers, platform specialists, and architects.
  • Maintain liaison with suppliers and technology partners to know the latest developments in emerging trends and ensure specialist knowledge remains up to date.

What You'll Bring Web & Digital Application Platforms & Frameworks:

  • Extensive experience in digital applications and web architecture:
  • UX Research & Development Tooling (Figma)
  • Mobile Frameworks (React Native)
  • Web Asset Management (Adobe)
  • Frontend frameworks (React/Angular)
  • API and Event technologies
  • Backend frameworks (Java and Node.js preferably)
  • Digital data & analytics platforms (Google, Adobe, etc.)
  • Web application security, CDN/Edge and optimization
  • AI/ML Experience (Integration of AI services into digital products)
  • Modern application architecture (domain model, micro services & micro apps)
  • Web application observability
  • Insurance & Guidewire Experience is an asset

Cloud Technologies

  • Cloud computing, and modern development practices.
  • Container and container orchestration frameworks (Kubernetes)
  • Certified in public cloud platforms (AWS preferred).

Project & Technical Leadership

  • Strong grasp of end-to-end project lifecycle methodologies (Agile).
  • Broad technical expertise with the ability to apply solutions across diverse customer and business scenarios.
  • Committed to innovation to deliver customer value.
  • Financial acumen for business case development and design decisions.
  • Ability to balance strategic direction with short-term goals.

Soft Skills & Leadership

  • Excellent communication and technical guidance skills.
  • Strong partner management and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Leadership qualities with personal impact and influence.
