As a Traffic Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe movement of all users of the transportation network. Primary duties vary between groups, and may include:

  • Design, approve, or review designs of traffic control devices, temporary traffic control, ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) projects and/or traffic control operation for construction projects. Ensure designs are in accordance with the City of Calgary Temporary Traffic Control Manual, Transportation Association of Canada Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada, and/ or other applicable safety standards.
  • Create/ Update Traffic Signal Timings.
  • Project management of operational projects, including coordination with and management of multiple internal and external parties.
  • Complete site checks for inspections.
  • Engage and coordinate contractors and consultant's activities. Review and provide feedback for construction drawings, circulations, and traffic impact assessments.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints from the public or other partners.
  • Analyze the transportation network for risks and inefficiencies; identify, analyze, and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Create or contribute to reports or other written documents such as construction tenders, request for proposal documents, manuals, and technical memoranda.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering.

  • You must have at least 1 years of experience in a Construction or project management of infrastructure projects obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details**.**

  • Familiarity with transportation engineering principles, TAC Guidelines and general traffic operation standards is required.

  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.

  • A personal vehicle for business purposes is an asset.

  • Knowledge of relevant software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Synchro, and Vissim would be considered an asset.

  • Understanding of provincial legislation, regulations, and standards as they pertain to transportation engineering and operations is an asset.

  • Success in this position requires the following competencies:

    • Tolerance for ambiguity, shifting priorities and complex situations.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Position Type: 3 Temporary (up to 23 months)

Location: 2808 Spiller Road SE

Compensation: Level P3E $113,200 - 141,500 per annum

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
