About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and strengthen health, safety, and environmental programs across multiple manufacturing locations. This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role responsible for driving regulatory compliance, building a proactive safety culture, and implementing best-in-class EHS programs that support operational excellence. The successful candidate will partner closely with leadership, operations, engineering, and HR to ensure a safe, compliant, and continuously improving work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership Champion a strong health, safety, and environmental culture across multiple locations. Develop and implement company-wide EHS standards, policies, and best practices. Establish and monitor key safety performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting metrics. Ensure compliance with applicable Canadian and U.S. health, safety, and environmental legislation. Promote employee engagement and accountability for workplace safety.
Program Development & Compliance
Develop, implement, and continuously improve health, safety, wellness, and environmental programs. Conduct facility audits, inspections, and compliance reviews while overseeing corrective action plans. Lead ergonomics initiatives and other proactive injury prevention programs. Support safety committees and strengthen their effectiveness across all locations. Develop communication and awareness initiatives that reinforce safe work practices.
Training & Incident Management
Design and deliver EHS training programs covering topics such as industrial hygiene, PPE, incident investigations, emergency response, and first aid. Monitor mandatory training completion and maintain compliance records. Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries while identifying root causes and preventative measures. Track and analyze safety metrics and trends to support continuous improvement. Partner with Human Resources on workers' compensation and return-to-work matters.
Risk Management & Emergency Preparedness
Conduct workplace risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies. Collaborate with engineering and operational teams to evaluate potential hazards associated with new processes or equipment. Develop, maintain, and test site emergency response plans. Lead initiatives that proactively reduce operational and environmental risk.
Regulatory & Operational Support
Manage environmental and operational permitting requirements where applicable. Stay current on evolving legislation and industry best practices. Support additional EHS initiatives and projects that align with organizational objectives.
Qualifications
Education Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline. Bachelor's degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Experience
6+ years of progressive Environmental, Health & Safety leadership experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment. Multi-site experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience working with Canadian and/or U.S. regulatory requirements.
Certifications
One or more of the following designations is considered a strong asset: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Occupational Health & Safety certification Desired Skills & Experience Strong leadership, coaching, and stakeholder management skills. Excellent organizational and project management abilities. Comprehensive knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental legislation across North America. Experience developing safety management systems, policies, and compliance programs. Strong incident investigation, root cause analysis, and risk assessment capabilities. Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience with EHS reporting systems and enterprise software is considered an asset.
