Job Description: We're looking for a Material Testing and Calibration Technician TEMPORARY FULL TIME Location: FORT ERIE Position Summary The Material Testing and Calibration Technician is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the equipment and instruments. This role involves the calibration of on-site major equipment, precise measurement instrument calibration management, and completing material testing of both in process and purchased materials to Airbus standards and specifications. The ideal candidate will be a

detail-oriented professional with a strong technical background and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Site Equipment Calibration This involves controlling and executing the calibration of large, fixed equipment critical to the manufacturing process. The goal is to ensure these machines operate within specified tolerances for quality and safety. Perform scheduled and unscheduled calibrations on a variety of major on-site equipment, including but not limited to, autoclaves, ovens, presses, and climate chambers, ensuring compliance with internal standards and industry regulations.

The following tasks are applicable:

  • Annual Temperature Uniformity Testing;
  • Annual Luminosity Testing;
  • Annual Airflow Testing;
  • Biweekly SAT testing;
  • Biannual SAT testing;
  • Bi Annual Calibration efforts;
  • Equipment calibration.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and report equipment non-conformities or failures to ensure equipment availability.
  • Document and maintain detailed calibration and inspection records in accordance with Quality Management System (QMS) procedures.
  • Instrument Calibration Management

This focuses on the precise and traceable calibration of portable and benchtop measurement tools used

throughout the facility.

The following tasks are applicable:

  • Execute calibration of a wide range of measurement instruments, such as calipers, micrometers,

multimeters, gauges, and load cells, maintaining accurate records and traceability.

  • Management of the calibration spreadsheet
  • Drumbeat the need to collect and send the instruments for calibration;
  • Control the instruments calibration diagonal (for the instruments that there are more than 01 unit, to

ensure that the items are sent to calibration in different periods)

  • Consolidation of the calibration needs aiming to maximize the efficiency when the supplier comes to

perform the calibrations on site at AHCA.

  • Document and maintain detailed calibration and inspection records in accordance with Quality

Management System (QMS) procedures.

  • Material testing (QA Lab): This involves performing specific tests to verify the properties of raw materials before they are used in production which are special process activities.

The following tasks are applicable:

  • Conducting DSC, Floating Peel, ILSS, Drum Peel, Lap Shear, Expansion Rate and Compression

tests on incoming Inspection material testing. Generating test reports and releasing material or

issuing NC’s for non conforming products.

  • Preparing samples for testing which could include layup and trimming
  • Conduct re-life tests on DSC, ILSS, Drum Peel and Compression to support Production needs.
  • Conduct In Process Floating Peel Tests on In process coupons to support Manufacturing.
  • Manage the Lab Press, Process changes to MET-095 requirements and calibration requirements

to develop coupons for Material testing.

  • Maintain currency for testing by completing PTP cross tests with external labs.
  • Quality inspection This is a checkpoint to ensure that purchased parts meet the required specifications before they enter the manufacturing flow.
  • Conduct thorough incoming or In process inspections on raw materials and components, verifying

certifications of conformance and ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and purchase order

requirements.

  • Perform dimensional and visual inspections on both composite and metallic parts using a variety of

metrology tools to ensure they meet design and quality specifications.

  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and other quality teams to resolve quality issues and support

continuous improvement initiatives.

Position Requirements Education

  • 5-7 years of experience or a degree in a technical field in Metrology and / or Material testing or

equivalent industry approved certifications.

Experience

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience in a material testing role within a manufacturing

environment.

  • Current certification or Airbus Helicopters approvals in Material Testing is a highly desired asset.
  • Experience in the aerospace or a similarly highly-regulated industry is highly desirable. Specific

experience with composite manufacturing processes is a significant advantage.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities

  • Calibration & Metrology: Strong understanding of calibration principles, measurement

uncertainty, and traceability. Demonstrated ability to perform hands-on calibration of various

equipment and instruments.

  • Material Testing to Airbus Helicopters requirements.
  • Inspection: Proven ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and

technical specifications.

  • Material Science: Basic knowledge of composite and metallic materials and their properties.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to

detail.

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to document findings

clearly and professionally.

  • Autonomy: Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while

managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
