Position Summary
SCMUA is seeking a qualified Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mobile and mechanical equipment at its Solid Waste Facilities. This position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, inspecting, lubricating, and troubleshooting heavy equipment, including diesel-powered vehicles and facility machinery. The successful candidate will assist with equipment installations, welding, maintenance record keeping, housekeeping of equipment, and emergency response activities as needed. The position requires the ability to work independently, diagnose mechanical issues, and maintain safe and efficient operation of SCMUA’s solid waste equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma, trade school training, or equivalent experience. Minimum three (3) years of experience in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment maintenance, or related mechanical work. Working knowledge of mobile and mechanical equipment used in solid waste operations. Valid driver’s license required. CDL Class A license required, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment. Ability to communicate effectively, troubleshoot equipment problems, and respond to emergency situations.
Working Conditions
Solid Waste Heavy Equipment Mechanic shall report to and receive direction from the Solid Waste Maintenance Supervisor, or in his/her absence, the Superintendent of Solid Waste Facilities. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must have own hand tools. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergencies.
Salary And Benefits
Salary Range: $60,000 – $80,000 annually (Grade 11, 40 hours per week)
