The part-time position includes bi-weekly pay, access to our Employee Wellness Program and Staff Committee initiatives & enrollment in the Registered Pension Plan [DCPP] once eligibility requirements have been met for PT Employees!** Based on interview availability, applications may be reviewed asap upon submission and qualified candidates, contacted immediately. Thank you!*** Overview The Services Coordinator is responsible for leading, monitoring, and supervising the overall operations of the Community Centre during times it is open to the public. They will contribute to creating an enjoyable experience and safe environment for our guests and volunteers through supporting, de-escalating, and intervening in situations as necessary. The Services Coordinator will provide orientation and leadership to meal groups and volunteers in the required areas of responsibility, including meal preparation, Marketplace appointments, clothing needs, laundry and shower requests and any other area of programming. They will work in partnership with at least one other Service Coordinator while completing their responsibilities.
Specific Responsibilities
- Review procedures, brief volunteers with regard to any pertinent information from the past week, and pray before opening
- Supervise guests as they arrive and ensure, throughout shift, that safety concerns are identified and dealt with quickly and appropriately
- Support guests in crisis with listening, empathy, prayer, resources, and direction where applicable
- Supervise all volunteers and meal groups in all aspects of activities during the assigned shift
- Maintain and enforce program rules of the program within the framework of the Agency Policy and Procedures
- Troubleshooting news situations and dealing to them in the moment
- Oversee closing procedures and gather team for closing debrief with regard to the shift happenings
- Attend appropriate committees, agency meetings, as well as public or educational meetings as they relate to Ray of Hope Community Centre
- Completion and review of written daily logs, incident reports and other documentation as needed
- Other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications Education
- Completion of post-secondary education in a related field of study; or
Experience
- Previous experience working with individuals experiencing poverty, mental health and/or addictions issues
- Supervisory experience is an asset
Recommended Certifications
- Crisis Intervention Training
- ASIST Training
- Standard First Aid, Level-C CPR & AED
- Safe Food Handling Certified
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required To Be Successful In This Position
- Demonstrated knowledge of program protocols
- Demonstrated knowledge of social service requirements used to effectively service a population experiencing homelessness, mental health issues, addiction and poverty
- Demonstrated ability to prevent and/or manage aggressive behaviours including intervention and physical releases
- Proven ability to identify and manage group dynamics and facilitate group process
- Proven ability to organize and deliver social, recreational and skills programs
- Demonstrated knowledge of legislation, supports and rights as they apply to the population we serve
- Demonstrated knowledge of the facility mission, philosophy, policies and procedures
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking and comprehension of the English language
Requirements
- Vulnerable Sector Check/Police Check
- Valid, unrestricted Class “G” Ontario Driver’s licence
- Ministry of Transportation Drivers Abstract through Service Ontario
- Employment Medical Form including immunization record and fitness assessment
Physical Demands
- Standing for many hours at a time
Working Conditions
- A spiritually Christian directed environment with volunteers and church groups
- A busy, fast paced, multi-aspect service to needy people
- Working with individuals who struggle with mental health and addiction issues, which can result in displays of inappropriate behaviours, such as verbal and physical aggression that require quick de-escalation techniques
- Dealing with police, medical, and other public professionals amidst supervision of many guests, volunteers, and meal groups
