Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and/ or support R&D projects and prototyping programs within Promatek or working closely with Cosma divisions.
  • Must be capable of handling projects from inception to completion. (i.e. timing, concept, feasibility, design, construction, programming, try-out, launch, prototype programs, engineering changes, packaging, etc.).
  • Prepare reports, charts and other documentation required for engineering records and projects (i.e. timelines, budgets, scope of work, technological findings, etc.)
  • Evaluate casting quality for various defects, present findings in PowerPoint or other suitable format and recommend solutions to be implemented.
  • Provide manufacturing feasibility input to internal and external customers.
  • Establishes strong interface with customers, through sales, solving technical problems, and resolving concerns and issues.
  • Provide technical support in manufacturing processes, time standards, tooling, materials and other phases involved in design, development and production of automotive assemblies.
  • Develop methods and techniques to maximize material usage, minimize wastes and reduce product and/or process costs.
  • Interfaces with customers in product development.
  • Prepares progress project reports for management.
  • Create patent applications.
  • Able to complete hands on work requiring heavy lifting for prototyping or R&D trials.
  • Support divisions as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing or R&D environment.
  • Minimum Engineering Degree in Metallurgy, prefer master’s degree in metallurgy
  • Knowledge of foundry practices, casting, stamping, welding and other manufacturing processes.
  • Component quality analysis, and failure mode analysis
  • Microscopic examinations of microstructures and defects,
  • Quantitative image analysis,
  • Chemical composition analysis,
  • X-ray inspection,
  • Mechanical testing.
  • Strong knowledge of alloy specifications and structures, ASTM test methods, project planning and management, design of experiments (DOE)
  • Strong knowledge of microscopes, sample preparation, spectrometer, image analysis, die casting machine settings, melting and degassing equipment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills both verbal and written (English).
  • Experience in R&D technology projects.
  • Presentation and report writing.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and determination attributes.
  • Computer literacy with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Cad & Project, etc.)
  • Passport and Valid Driver’s license required.

Working Conditions

  • This role is based in an industrial/manufacturing environment and involves both hands-on work on the shop floor as well as desk-based work in an office setting.
