Job Summary
The Computer Store is a department of the UVIC Bookstore. The Booktore is the University's one stop shop for books, computers, supplies & stationery, clothing and giftware. In addition, Finnerty's provides java, local, fresh baked goods and a variety of snacks. The Bookstore offers services to faculty, students, staff, members of the local community and is part of a greater community of campus service providers.
The Computer Store Sales Assistant is responsible for assisting the Computer/Technology Buyer with sales counter duties and providing customer service and cashier duties. In addition, the Computer Store Sales Assistant assists customers with their hardware and software needs, questions and sales; restocks the shelves and ensures the store is clean and tidy and merchandise has the correct prices marked; and, keeps the computer store website tech pages up to date with stock images and specification information.
Job Requirements
Skills:
- Excellent customer service and listening skills
- Cash handling accuracy
- Ability to follow established procedures
- Willingness to learn about the UVic Bookstore, the Computer Store and its operation
- Requires stamina for light physical effort to carry and lift merchandise and boxes and move them within any area of the Bookstore; to stoop, reach and retrieve stock.
Specialized Knowledge/Education:
- High school diploma and related work experience. Equivalent combinations of related training, education and/or experience may be considered.
- General technology (hardware and software) knowledge.
Experience:
- Previous retail computer sales experience and cash handling is preferred.
- Any computer technician experience an asset.
